According to several Auburn sites, including the Auburn Rivals site, wide receiver Tim Hawthorne broke a bone in his foot in non-contact workouts this morning, and the early estimate is that he will miss 6-8 weeks from the injury. At this point, he's going to miss all of Fall camp, and should miss the season opener as well.
We'll have to see how this one plays out. Hawthorne was a highly-touted recruit in 2006, and he certainly has the raw talent. On the other hand, foot injuries tend to linger (ask anyone who has ever had one, or Ole Miss DE Greg Hardy, whichever you come across first), and this injury will probably limit him just about all year at least to a degree.
I feel sorry for these guys who get hurt. I hope he can get over this and be productive...except for against us of course.

Is it just me, or is this the second straight year that Auburn seems to have a rash of injuries or players kicked off?
Seems like last year there were some major injuries and/or major player-related troubles at this time of the year.

Never want to see a kid get hurt. He has had a tough row to hoe as well. If I remember correctly, he was involved in a car accident last year and was injured going into fall camp.
I wish these things would stop happening at the barn...I don't want to hear how their genius coach didn't win a game all year because of injuries and having to clean up Tubby's riff-raff.
Do you remember how Hawthorne (out of Homewood) kept us waiting, and then he finally announced for Auburn? I wanted him and I had wanted Karlos Dansby out of Woodlawn. I have always thought that when Tuberville got those two players out of Birmingham, where usually Bama cleaned up, this signified that Tuberville and Auburn were really making inroads in recruiting against Alabama.
Now I believe Dansby has really made his mark in the pros, and Hawthorne only last season began to make his mark at Auburn.
Football in this state has really changed in a short time, hasn't it?

WOW, he has had some bad luck! I hope he can heal up and get back on the field.

Frankly, I don't care what happens to the kid. Hope he can suit up and play well but if he doesn't, then I won't worry about it.
One thing that did give me pause for a moment was when reading this, I was thinking back to the seasons I was at Alabama and shortly after I graduated. Brodie Croyle got hurt in 2003 and 2004. Also, in 2003, the back-up quarterback got hurt at the Georgia game and we had our third string Brandon Avalos playing. Also, in 2005, we had Prothro go down and then our center got hurt at the Mississippi State game. It seemed as though we were destined to stay out of the national championship picture. Not that I am saying the same for Auburn.
If Hawthorne were healthy, I still think Auburn would be terrible. I am simply saying that while we were down, we were kept down by many things. This injury makes me wonder if something similar is going to happen at Auburn.
Of course it is all probably just plain coincidence, but maybe there's a pattern.
