Any Word on Kerry Murphy's Progress?

Share

Was looking through the Spring roster and came across Kerry Murphy. Had almost forgotten he made it to campus.

With all of the talk about O-Line, was wondering if anyone knew anything about Kerry's progress and whether he would be able to contribute much this year.

Murphy is playing on the DL and has been pretty impressive, IIRC. Someone else will chime in with more info.

Re: Any Word on Kerry Murphy's Progress?

I think he is pretty set as our third nose tackle - which isn't bad given who is in front of him.
Having been so far removed from his Hoover days, there was some concern about what kind of shape he would be in, but IIRC, he surprised some by how good of shape he was in.
Given that he is only a freshman, it looks like we'll have good days ahead with Murphy. He and Chapman will help soften the loss of Cody in 2010.

I think when you consider how critical Nose is in our Defense I think you can chalk him down to defense. I hate that Quinton Dial didn't qualify because I felt he could plug in that spot as well.

Kerry Murphy should play behind Terrence Cody and Josh Chapman. I'm pretty sure he'll get a good amount of play time if Saban rotates the D-Linemen throughout the games.

Re: Any Word on Kerry Murphy's Progress?

I just love kids like Murphy, Nikita Stover, etc. who don't make it in high school for whatever reason, but want to play for the Tide and eventually enroll at UA. Murphy has had quite a journey just to get on campus so I hope he doesn't slack up now on his academics. Good luck Murph

Re: Any Word on Kerry Murphy's Progress?

While his future is at NT , Kerry had a lot of reps at WDE during the Spring .

Man, that's one huge DE. He does have good quickness for a big man though.

Re: Any Word on Kerry Murphy's Progress?

It would be great if Kerry can live up to the hype that has surrounded him for years. The coaches must believe he can. Another top notch Nose Tackle to build around, and he has plenty of time to get better. Keep your nose in the books Kerry so you can anchor the best D'line in the nation one day.
