Food and football for Oct 4th games

Share

I posted this on another site and I thought I would post it here for giggles and grins as well.

I thought I would have some fun and preview the games on TV this weekend with some food choices to go along with them. Just a quick disclaimer: I nor the AMA endorse the sedentary gluttony discussed in this post. On to this weeks' interesting TV games.

Alabama vs. Kentucky on SEC Network @ 11:20

Greg McElroy’s first true road start and the official beginning of life without Dont'a Hightower makes this game at least ˝ a pepperoni/sausage/mushroom pizza.

LSU vs. Georgia on CBS @ 2:30

Is LSU for real or can Georgia continue their redemption tour following their OSU egg? Definitely worth a plate of nachos.

Washington vs ND on NBC @ 2:30

If the LSU-GA game becomes unwatchable this is your best bet. I heard Rece Davis with a great line this weekend in referencing the Purdue game, this is the “next “biggest game of Charlie Weiss’s career””. Now it is Washington’s turn to provide that. Although I cannot stand to see Notre Dame win at tiddlywinks, winning just enough may keep ND and Charlie locked in a dance of mediocrity for a few more years. But seeing Weiss on the ND sideline makes me want to reach for something healthy, so let’s go with some celery for this game.

Ole Miss vs. Vandy on ESPNU @ 6:00

Always worth checking out your next opponent, especially to see if they have corrected what is ailing them. In honor of Houston, let’s eat something from the nut family for this game – cashews.

Arkansas vs. Texas A&M on ESPN2/ Georgia Tech vs Mississippi St on CSS @ 6:30

If seeing Vanderbilt’s inability to move the ball is not your cup of tea, these are worth a quick peak. SEC teams in out of conference games vs teams from BCS conferences. Cleanse your palates from conference play with some pretzels and a Heineken.

Auburn vs. Tennessee on ESPN @ 6:45

Well let’s see, we have had pizza, nachos, celery, cashews, pretzels and beer. What should we have next? Auburn and UT are on, so clearly it is time to reach for the Tums. Let the Indigestion Bowl play out and hope for a natural disaster. On the positive side, at the end of the night one of our rivals’ is guaranteed a loss…

Oklahoma vs Miami on ABC @ 7:00 (or Cal vs. USC)

This game would have had more appeal if Miami showed a pulse against Va. Tech last weekend, but still Oklahoma can get themselves back into the title picture over the next two weeks, starting with this one. Since the game is in Miami, and the Tums should have started working by now let’s have a Cubano sandwich with some fries.

Re: Food and football for Oct 4th games

Nice thoughts and menu, but it breaks my game day tradition. Always wear the same shirt (I sometimes wash it, well my wife does when the stench is overwhelming), fix game day breakfast, BBQ the same foods for every game. This only changes from season to season. This season's menu is brats, boudin, wieners (not the hot dog crap), wings, burgers, and ribs. It normally last the 8 of us about 2 days which is good since we rewatch the game on Sunday.

I guess i'll be watching the Georgia Tech game. It looks like the only game worth a Heineken. And I love me some Heineken.
