Tennessee recap: Vols can’t kick it over Mount Cody

For a brief, two-second moment, Bryant-Denny Stadium had never been louder. That would have been the moment of Terrence Cody’s second blocked field goal of the day and the two seconds immediately following.
Alabama’s 12-10 victory over Tennessee in a game the Tide kept handing to its opponents was followed up with a much-needed off-week before the Tide faces LSU. The only people who need an off-week more than the Alabama players are the state’s collection of cardiologists.

On second and two from UT's four near the end of the first half, if Bama pounds UT like they'd done the entire drive with Ingram, Bama goes up 13-3 at the half and the game is basically over.
I'm still befuddled by McElwain's goal line play calling lately. If it doesn't change, we will lose one we should win. Period.
I don't want to hear about luck this, luck that. Our play calling to close the first half and the third quarter left A LOT to be desired. One carry for Ingram in the third quarter?
Give the ball to your show horse!

Nice read Jess. Love the title.
This game reminded me so much of my childhood back in the 60s when UT-Bama would play low scoring defensive battles.
I think i will relish this score (and the accompanying Daniel Moore print) more than another one of those 35-10 blowouts. ROLL TIDE!!

Good read Jess, thanks! Agree with the kudos to Tiffin and Cody (and the whole D) as well as your reality perspective; wish the so-called national talking heads could see things this clear.
I too am in the same boat with CrimsonJag concerning the goal-line play calling, it's just frustratingly odd. That said, have to trust McElwain and Saban.

Spot on with the evaluation. And while I am not downing UT, we have the potential to be a MUCH better offensive team than what we've shown over the past three ball games. Right now, IMO, we are the ones that's causing the problems... not our opposition.

Two things stand out to me about this game. First is what you've addressed...THE PLAY CALLING in the redzone and specifically inside the 5 yard line! Also, why don't we have a quick slant to any WR? The slant to the flanker is stupid because it requires too much of a read and also getting the ball over the DE and a LB normally! The slant to a WR whose defender is 10 yards off or even bump is much easier and much less risky...this baffles me!
Second, our "spotty" defensive play in my opinion was a direct result of being on the field the entire game! Our offense has completely lost its identity and frankly we played much better without Julio. Why is it that we've not completed more than one pass to Mike McCoy over the past two games? Greg may have had his confidence rattled but that doesn't account for looking only at his primary receiver when he was great at going through his progressions early in the year! Yes, we're playing tougher defenses right now but even when he's got time he's rushing it and needs to calm down a bit and just take was the defense gives him. He once again threw into double coverage trying to get Julio the ball and while it was a touch too long but otherwise perfect it was foolish given that we had a wide open Maze on the opposite side of the field with single coverage at the time.
Anyway, I believe much of our problems are Coach Mac's and he'll get them straightened out! We've become very easy to read and are allowing the "D's" to dictate our "O" rather than keeping them off balance.
This break is WELL DESERVED and very much needed! I believe we'll play much better against LSU!

it was 2nd and 1 yard to go on the 4 yard line. I can't beleive we tried to throw the ball twice instead of tring to run the ball to atleast be 1st and goal on the 3 yard line. There isn't dought in my mind that out RB's couldn't get that ball in there but no we want to try throw the ball against a good defence that is backed up in the end zone.

If you throw the ball 3 yds behind a WR on a slant, it gets run back for a TD.
