I'm assuming the SEC teams will take care of business and the SEC champion - either Bama (hopefully), Florida, or LSU - will be tapped for the BCSCG. So who will the SEC team face?
This was a good weekend in that regard. For starters, USCw lost and lost big. I did NOT want USCw to play for the NC on their home field. Looks like that's off the table now.
In a similar vein, I do NOT want a one-trick wonder playing in the BCSCG. Think Boise State. Yes, their win over Oregon looks better and better. However, as the great guru Lou Holtz says, there are lots of teams that can beat one quality opponent during the season. The trick is to beat several quality opponents over the course of the season. BSU fails that test. And TCU. And Cincinnati IMO.
Enter Texas. After their win yesterday, they're positioned to run the table. This is good; it means pollsters should have no problem matching Texas and the SEC Champ for all the marbles.
But if Texas falls off the wagon, we need Iowa to finish undefeated. In that event, Iowa would likely be tapped for the BCSCG. However, it's not good for both Texas AND Iowa to finish the season undefeated. This would make it easy for pollsters to bypass a one-loss SEC Champ and pit Texas and Iowa for the championship.
BTW, folks who dislike the BCS system should hope for Texas and Iowa to lose a game, Oregon to win out and finish with only a loss to BSU; and BSU, TCU, and Cincinnati to remain undefeated.
Still lots of games to be played and too early to be pondering this sort of thing. But I have a cold so no church this morning. I have too much time on my hands...
A whole lot can happen in the next 5 weeks. Still too complex to predict. Texas seems to be in the game now, as they just have no one left on their schedule that can beat them with their defense.
The real question at this point, will a team from the SEC be able to make it through the gauntlet? It will be a crime to have a one loss SEC team supplanted by an undefeated team (other than Texas), but it just might happen. With the weak schedules left out there, we could have as many as 5 undefeated teams at the end of the season - even if both Bama and Florida lose...
Too many IF's at this point. Texas can lose the Big 12 game. Bama could lose to LSU, then say LSU beat Fla in SECCG, that changes a lot. Especially if nobodies Cincinnati, TCU, and Boise State stay undefeated. You never know what the two voting polls will do and that is part of the BCS thing to determine who plays. Bama simply needs to take care of business, one game at a time. Florida can be beat this year. While they have shown a lot of the old Florida, they have also shown that they can be beat by a good team. Bama has the D to play with any of them. But, they have to win. The QB has GOT to step it up down field. These 5 yard passing games are not going to do it.
I'll keep it simple. Iowa PLEASE keep finding ways to win and let's see Bama and Iowa. I think we wound be able to dominate. Iowa can hardly score on anyone, let alone on of, if not the best, defenses in the country. Plus I think our offense will be back on track by then.

If I could lay out a dream scenario, this is it. I just don't think Iowa can run the table.
I just can't see an unbeaten Iowa edging out a once beaten SEC team, especially in light of the way Ohio State has been drubbed in the BCSCG lately. My reasoning is that the BCS is probably already pretty sensitive regarding all the criticism it is getting and would be afraid of the repercussions of Iowa getting hammered as would most likely be the case. Better to choose the once beaten SEC team knowing that even if they lost, it would still be a close game.

Yes there is still a lot of football left and anything can happen. At this point looking ahead, Iowa may not get past OSU in Columbus. Alabama still has LSU. The two highest ranked teams right now who have the easiest route to the BCSC game would be Florida and Texas. Boise St, TCU, and Cincinnati would not go over a one loss SEC champion.

Here is the hierarchy...
1. Undefeated SEC team
2. Undefeated Texas
3. Undefeated Iowa
4. One-loss SEC champion
5. Undefeated Cincinnati
6. One-loss Oregon
7. One-loss Texas (if Big 12 Champ)
- Two-loss SEC champ doesn't go.
- One-loss Iowa doesn't go.
- Boise and/or TCU doesn't go.
- One-loss Cincy doesn't go.
- One-loss Oregon is ahead of Texas if Texas loses. They lost early to a perceived quality team and have the better win.
A lot can happen, but I think that is the hierarchy, and I don't think we will have to go beyond the seventh scenario to get our two teams.
USC is still in the mix. They really are the best team in the country with all that talent. I don't see why they should be punished for those two losses, they were just aberrations. USC can still compete with the best teams in the country, they just had (another) letdown game to a lesser opponent.

Nah. Everyone knows Notre Dame is the best in the country and truly deserves the chance to play in the BCSCG. Only a conspiracy by the pollsters will keep 'em out...
But Boise State does indeed have an outstanding football team and so does TCU and Cincinnati. I think they all three will finish undefeated.
Iowa is possibly the luckiest football team that I've ever seen but I think Ohio State will blow them away.
Right now I'd say Bama-Texas in the Rose and Florida-Boise State in the Sugar or whatever Bowl they'd play in. Bama-Texas would be a classic and Florida-Boise State may possibly be one of the most entertaining games ever.
