Bama started essentially 3 walk-ons on D and finished top 30 in the country. Bama was 6-2 and a 4th and 4 stop w/2 min left against eventual NC LSU from winning the West. There were 5 players, 3 starters and 2 key backups, then suspended for 4 games. Then was about to go up 16-3 against MSU when on the last play of the half JPW threw the int that was returned for a 100 yard TD. Bama did not recover til the bowl game. Kiffin has not come close to that kind of achievement this year. And get your facts straight Bama was 7-6. Even with the 5 players suspended Bama crushed UT 41-17. UT has not beaten Bama since. | | | | | How many players on UT's roster could start for Alabama? I say Eric Berry,Dan Williams, a healthy Gerald Jones, Chris Scott, maybe Luke Stocker, maybe Rico McCoy, and Jon Crompton of the last three weeks.
At most, I count seven UT starters that would start for Bama. If Tennessee wins out and goes 9-4 after going 5-7, he will be the toast of Knoxville. Our talent level is going to eventually catch Bama and Florida, assuming we keep our staff intact. We're coming back whether our rivals want us to or not. Even our biggest critics in the media are on board.

No doubt UT will be back on day, as long as lame kitten has his daddy, he will keep him in games. Even bad coaches have good to great seasons, Let see how he does the next 3 three years before you anoint him the next Saban/Meyer.

And no offense, critics change there mind every week. You have beaten a bad Georgia team, and a fumbling South Carolina Team, you have a week schedule left. The critics will be wanting to give you a bronze statue, then next year after a few losses they will be wanting to throw you under the bus.

Looking at the UT schedule before the season, UT had five they should win, five toss-ups (of which four were home), and two they should lose. If they win the five they should, and win three of the five toss-ups, 8-4 is about right. 8-4 or worse is average or below. COY awards should go to someone who exceeded expectations...Kiffen ain't it.

You can't compare to us some one has to be the King and we are it.

To think that CLK would be considered for COTY is crazy. This guy has won two games against decent SEC competition (Georgia, South Carolina). Thats it. That is all he has accomplished on the field. Off the field he has accomplished much more, such as receiving two reprimands from the SEC office and having a new rule unofficially named after himself for being a complete idiot after the bama game.
Two wins on the field and two reprimands off the field does not merit COTY consideration. The guy out in Oregon and Kelly from Cincinnati deserve way more consideration than Lane Kiffin.

Second, since we are comparing Kiffen's first year to Saban's, the better question is how many of the 2007 Tide players could have started for mid-level SEC teams in 2007? An under-performing cornerback, sophomore left tackle, highly motivated defensive end? I've defended the legitimacy of this thread, due to the harsh critique from Jess, but don't even try to go the route of comparing talent levels to the probation-crippled, Shula-mess, bad attitude-laden roster of players that Saban inherited in 2007.
