I did not want to start another thread, but why is eveyone hypersensitve about Lane's comments? When he talked about beating Florida on the day he was hired, he merely mimicked other coaches like Jim Tressel and Rick Neuhiesel. When he said Urban was cheating he was talking to a BOOSTER club. I know this is not a sympathetic audience, but I can promise UT fans are loving it and loving him. It has been funny to watch so many of Lane's critics eat crow. Mark Schlabaugh from ESPN wrote in the pre-season that Florida would hang 70 on Tennessee....didn't happen. Mike and Mike,Finebaum, Mark Bradley,Jim Rome, Colin Cowherd amongst others are former critics that have done a 180 degree turn around. The only holdovers are Kevin Scarbinsky and Pat Dooley who are absolute homers who fear what is to come from Knoxville.
Now, I think this is a fair question, what if Lane Kiffin used the "we are tired" excuse after escaping with a win over a 17 point underdog or used the "we were sick" excuse like Urban after the UT-Florida game? Would be be treated with kid gloves the same as Nick and Urban? I think not.
It's going to be interesting how Slive deals with UM after his comments about the officiating. We will see if there is a double standard. Go Yankees!

Re: Lane Kiffin coach of the year?

In 2005 Scout had TN wilth the #! recruiting class by Scout which include Havestry, Crompton among other top talent! It not like he came in with no talent and performed some type of miracle! He has not really done anything except being able to play Alabama a close game and being Bozo the baby clown!

Most of those guys washed out and 2006 and 2008 were complete washouts. It takes more than one recruiting class. In addition to talent. it might not fit our system. As my original post said, it's an open and shut case if the award goes to the coach of the league winner.

It can't happen because you viles always have a bye week before playing Bama.

Well, you play Chattanooga before Auburn and have a bye before LSU. Maybe Slive will force us to take it the first week of the season in the future.

Re: Lane Kiffin coach of the year?

Let the Ut fans get all excited about their moral victories and excitement over maybe being a 8-4 team, It will only be more comical when they come crashing back down next year. They are not void of talent like some of the pundits like to spew. They will however miss alot of that talent next year.

Well, we will bring in the niumber one class in the country. Year two in new offensive and defensive systems will offset losses. Monte will dominate college offenses. You will be sorely disappointed if you think we are going to crash and burn. My only question is will we win a natonal title before Bama if you don't win it this year? Bama will also suffer significant losses, especially if your good juniors go pro.

Re: Lane Kiffin coach of the year?

You uthug fans seem to forget that Bama/Florida havent stopped recruiting well just cause lame kitten is flying around in a helicoptor crying about early playing time. You will have a new offense line, a new QB and no EB. Monte is good, but will dominate...no.... You will struggle next year, your a fool if you think different. Now go away and play with your fat girlfriend in her pumkin orange sweathirt.

Re: Lane Kiffin coach of the year?

Can't believe I am diving into this cesspool, but I gotta give my vote at this point to Cheesesteak, too. He came in to Auburn under a lot of heat already (just from his own people), and he is fielding a team that doesn't even have near 85 scholarship athletes. If he can win 7 or 8 this year, kudos to him!

UT has played tough and has lost all four games by close margins. I think the SEC will take this year to figure Lane and UT out completely, and then the pressure is really on.

Nearly all the SEC recruits well.

You talk about a new OL next year. That has been the big point most make, this year at least of the 3 starters right now should not be playing at the D1 level on the OL. Neither of the Sullins would have seen playing time if not for injuries. Aaron Douglas came in as a TE, this staff moved him to OL. With the OL we currently have we shouldn't be any good at that position. Seeing what has been done with these three, that gives me an optimistic outlook for what they will be able to do with guys that have been recruited as OL.

You are also right about a new QB. Also seeing the turn around in Crompton gives me more optimism about Stephens or Bray.

You are right EB will probably be gone. He really has not reason to spend another year in college, of course as a UT fan I hope he comes back. If he does I think we will have the back defensive back field in the country (Berry, Jackson, and Rogan). Even if Berry leaves we have Jackson and Rogan. Miles or Gordon will probably take the third spot in the defensive back field next year and this unit will still be good.

The real pressure won't be on until year three. This is when his first class with be juniors or redshirt sophomores.
