Like everyone else, I'm up early & ready to go! BIG, BIG game today!!!!!
My thoughts:
I'm not sure about the whole Lsu peaking thing...much of that has to do with the level of competition and defense's they've faced the last two games. I'm not saying they aren't a really good team, I'm just not convinced they are as good as LSU teams the past 3-4 years and I don't think they are playing up to their potential and
that's what make them a dangerous team for us. Not to mention, they've had this one circled since last year.
I think this game will be one of field position (special teams), defense, the run game, and the team that controls the line of scrimmage. Both qbs can have solid games and not be spectacular and still win. Both teams have enough play-makers on each side to do that. But I like BAMA's chances with having Ingram, a 100% healthy Upchurch and Richardson in the backfield. Thats a lot of power running right there.
The one big area of concern I do have is special teams coverage.
Lsu's Holliday is very fast and talented on returns. Our coverage...not so much.
We cannnot allow LSU to have big returns and give Jefferson a short field to work with. We have to make them try & drive the length of the field. BAMA special teams has had trouble with this in recent games with the opponent getting the ball at the 40-45 yd line.
I think however,
if LSU cannot run the ball effectively (which they haven't done this year except in the last two maybe) and take at least some pressure off of Jefferson, I think our defense will have a monster game. Much like the Arky game, because they couldn't run the ball, it allowed the defensive pressure to get to Mallet all day. We need to do this to LSU.
Alabama can run the ball and I think they will. A lot in this game.
Everyone is expecting changes in the passing game, but I don't think we'll see anything out of the ordinary in this game, unless its some early shots down field, particularly if they play single coverage. Also, we have to cut out the penalties on offense. This has killed our drives as much as anything, so I do think will see better execution in the passing game which will provide some balance to our offense. We've been our own enemy in recent games with poor execution and penalties. As long as
GMac and our receivers have a solid day, we can run the ball, and eliminate penalties, we'll be fine.
Both teams have a lot to play for in this one, so I expect a good one.
My score prediction:
24 BAMA
10 LSU
ROLL TIDE!
