LSU wrap-up: Alabama has become the team no one wants to play

Alabama head coach Nick Saban talked about the concept when he was hired in 2007. He said he wanted Alabama to grow into the team no one wanted to face.
After watching one LSU player after another leave the Bryant-Denny Stadium playing surface with one physical malady or another, it became clear that those days aren’t coming at some point in the future – they’re already here.
Alabama’s most valuable player might have been Marcell Dareus. It might have been Greg McElroy, or it might have been Julio Jones. LSU’s MVP was its head trainer.

Great article. Bama literally "beat the hell out of" LSU. It was like the prisoners versus the guards. I'm pumped and can't wait to watch the rest of the season unfold. RTR

I remember the Arkansas HC saying his guys had lost before they kicked off, because they thought they were beaten already. I am old enough to remember The Bear and hearing that a lot.

Excellent read Jess. The most complete, physical dominating game so far this year. That Alabama team yesterday would beat Florida. It needs to show up the next 5 games.

LSU was a strong challenge but this game was really similar to Virginia Tech in how we slowly but surely took over. Our front seven is other-worldly, Robbie Green is a great player in waiting, Mark Barron appears to be playing with the savvy and confidence of a 5th year senior while our stars, Rolando, Javy, Julio and Mark Ingram are just constants. Our offensive line, as Jess points out, played beyond belief and Greg Mc was his old see the field-self once again. A great game and one that indicates that the process is alive, well and particularly painful to teams that want to try to keep up.

A friend of mine down in New Orleans to cover the Saints/Panthers texted me during our game. "This is a war," he said. I wrote back: Yeah, and we're going to win it.
An Ohio State fan called after the further review of Patterson's interception/non interception. I told him: We could have given LSU the ball at our 5 and they would have been lucky to kick a field goal.
With the exception of LSU's punter, we owned this game. By the beginning of the 4th quarter, all those talented players in the white uniforms looked like big dogs acclimating themselves to the new invisible fence. They just didn't want to get shocked again.
One more point: Who would have ever thought our offensive line would be this good. The slow-motion replays again and again show just savagely good blocking during runs, and with all that speed and size in the LSU back 7, Greg had time to throw throughout the game.
Two tough ones to go, but not as tough as the mindset of our players and coaches.

Great write up, Jess. I had been upset with some of the playcalling the past couple of weeks; but yesterday the staff called a fantastic game. Not everything worked to perfection. However, they had great balance and kept the LSU defense on their heels.

Great game. Great win.[/QUOTE]
I agree, trenda. Mistakes were made here and there, mainly in the 1st half, but you just got the feeling as the game went on, BAMA was getting stronger and had it under control. This was a huge win and confidence-booster for this team I think to steam roll to Hotlanta.
Another good one, Jess.

Agree that playcalling was drastically improved. I didn't agree with the decision to pass on the interception that wasn't, but hey thats just my opinion. I was a little surprised how many times we went empty to open the game, but we settled into a very balanced attack.

Hey guys, you want a laugh, i just clicked over to al.com and some (not all) the comments were down right hilarious! Some of the lsu fans overthere are really smarting right now, Im not kicking them while they are down, I actually thought it was a hard fought game, but I had tears in my eyes at some of the bickering back and forth! I never would have thought after that game so many of the lsu fans would be thinking we cheated, we paid the refs. and so on completely and utter nonsense but funny still...

Great article...
Was thinking the same thing when I saw scott go down with the shoulder/collarbone, and saw PP go down 3 times (for him to come back is admirable, for we saw how bad he wanted to be in this game), not to mention what i believe were 5-8 other injuries (including a questionable free time out one at the end of the game...i won't credit that one) in the game.
That said, most importantly: I didn't see one Alabama player leave the game due to injury (save Colin Peek, who was "preinjured").
That to me, is one of the best stats!
