I haven't looked up the actual stats, but from a pure "awesomeness" upon their arrival point of view, Bobby Humphrey, Gene Jelks and Kerry Goode are hard to beat.
Recruiting classes 83-86

Ray Perkins 85 Class was lethal, besides two five star backs, Humphries
and Jelks, even a three star linebacker turned out pretty good(Derrick Thomas)

I also noticed that Shula was listed as a 5 star recruit in 83, I didn't realize he was so highly recruited. Kerry was a four star for some reason. I don't believe the legend of Town Creek was in full effect yet.

What ever happened to the Town Creek Pipeline?

71-79 80-82 83-86 87-89 90-96 1997

1998 1999 2000
2001
2002

Before I even read the resposes to the OP I thought about Goode too! I remember that game against BC...I think it was the kickoff classic (as it was called back in those days) and I thought it was played in the old giants stadium in the meadowlands (but I'm not sure). I believe that game was the first of his soph. season and we were truly robbed of seeing what could have been one of the best Bama backs of all time after he blew out his knee. What a shame!

If Linnie Patrick could have stayed out of the Bear's doghouse who knows how that may have turned out.
The BC game was at Legion Field in 84. Alabama did play in a Kickoff Classic in 86 against Ohio State winning 16-10 I believe. Goode had about 290 yards before being hurt. I have hated artificial turf ever since.
