CUM would demand the money and they would pay, because to do less would not put ND on a par with 'Top Teams'. For some reason ND still thinks of themselves as a 'Top Team'.
I can't see why CUM would ever be temped to take a step backward by going to ND. Sure he won't have Tebow, but I think he will still have enough talent to win the East most every year and have enough to play for the SEC title regularly. |

That program has a storied history and a national following. All it needs is a coach who can win. When they get the right man, they will be right back on top.
The question is, will the school that hired Gerry Faust and Charlie Weis be able to recognize and hire the right guy?

As ND is a private school, no one outside of it really knows what he makes, but when he was hired it was estimated at $4-5M/year.
By way of comparison, Coach Saban's base salary is $225k: If ND wants Meyer and it comes down to cash, UF can't compete financially - ND has an endowment of over $7B, UF's is $1.62B... | | | | |
That matters not at all. A football coach's salary is next to nothing when you're talking in the billions. Besides, the bulk of his compensation does not come from the school's coffers, it mostly comes from boosters and who do you think churns out more alumni, Florida with over 50.000 students or ND with probably about one fourth of that or less?

The proof of the pudding - ND is uber-welathy.

I talked with an old friend who lives in Ohio whose son goes to Cincinnati and he said the Brian Kelly to ND talk is everywhere. Earlier I thought Meyer would be a gimme to ND but lately I am not so sure. Like it or not, UF is the program in the SEC.

So is Florida and we can probably agree that both programs would not strap themselves with the pay of its football coach, As much as football means to both programs, neither would do that.

I think Tebow is great, but a true throwing quarterback that can run.......look out. I know Tebows passing skills have vastly improved, but imagine an accurate, strong armed qb with 4.5 speed at that position. Very scary. The talk is Brantley may be that guy, guess we will see. IMHO. |
