I know there has been several BGE posts in the past but instead of doing a search I thought I would put it on again due to some more people may have gotten one recently.
I am contemplating getting one, I just need get off the pocketbook. I just don't know what size to get. Large or medium egg? Primarily I will just cook for 3 but at times 6 to 8 people. Also, does anyone have the cypress table that the egg sits in? Would you recommend the table or just go plain jane with the basic setup?
BTW, this is a graduation gift to myself. I finally completed college after 19 years. I walk next Saturday in Montgomery then off to the beach for some gulf seafood.

I recommend the large size. It will cook for about 6 people with no trouble 8 in a pinch. The extra large is 3 inches bigger for another $250 or so. I have the cypress table without the wheels. The wheels can be bought from someplace like Harbor Freight for about $15 while you will pay over $100 if you buy from BGE. The table has to be assembled but it's not hard, buy the big table you won't regret it and buy the cover too. Add a couple of these to hang your tools on and maybe a paper towel holder somewhere. Be sure to stain and seal the table so the boards don't warp in the weather. I like this thing too. I highly recommend a half grid or cut one in half or 2/3 - 1/3 so you can add charcoal when needed. I also have one of these contraptions. This will allow you to cook at very low controlled temperatures and it will also make your BBQ day look like a high school science project. I'm not sure it's worth the $$$ investment but it cuts down the hard work adjusting dampers all day. If nothing else buy a plate setter, pizza stone and cast iron grill the sooner the better.
Goose, I don't know squat about the BGE. I just want to congratulate you on getting your degree. Well done!!
Thanks, Dare woman. I finally finished after 19 years after I completed high school. I wished my dad and mom was here to see me walk but I know they will be watching me from Heaven when I receive my diploma this Saturday.
I am heading to Perdido after I graduate for some fresh seafood from the gulf and some cold beer.
When I get back I am getting the BGE. Its amazing at the price difference from different places for the BGE.

I am also very close to pulling the trigger on getting a big green egg. I have decided to get a large one due to cooking for larger groups of people on football Saturdays. Now, its just a matter of trying to get the best price or a couple of freebies with it where they are sold. Anyone know of any good deals for one in central Alabama? There are 3 places that sell them in Montgomery and I have only been to one thus far. I also plan on building a table for it so I have plenty of room to set things down by the grill.
I do have one question about the adjustable rig. How many Boston Butts can you smoke on a large egg with the rig and without it? I had thought about getting an XL egg but have decided to go with the large since I have heard you can stack meat with these rigs and other devices. I would agree that a plate setter and a pizza stone look to be the best accessories to start with. But when looking in the store, it appears that I will be getting many more toys for it along the way.
