My wife got my big green egg last Friday. I spent Friday and Saturday putting a sealant on the large table. Sunday I let it air out and then tonight I assembled the BGE and placed in the table. Currently got 1/2 rack of ribs on, been cooking for about 45 minutes at 275 degrees. I don't expect these to be a knockout, that will come with time. I got to get the indirect cook plate to make these awesome but until then this is good practice. Man this thing smells so good.
I love my BGE and my wife also..

ife still claims that the BGE she gave me for Fathers Day back 4 or 5 years ago is the best investment she's ever made. Yes you do want to pick up the "plate sitter" for indirect. I also find the Pizza Stone and Rib Rack to be usefull; the rack will sit in an pan to catch all those juices when doing a bone-in Prime Rib, the simplest meat to cook in the BGE. You'll find your way, and have a blast doing it. I've discovered that going the cheap route on the "lump charcoal does you and your experience little favor, but there are brands out there cheaper than BGE brand that can cook even and not consist of 2x4 planks.

I got mine about a month ago and I love it. I have done chicken, steak, burgers, and 2 boston butts. Once I got the hang of controlling the temperature, cooking is a breeze. The naked whiz website has a ton of great information from recipes to what lump charcoal is the best. It is specifically geared for ceramic cookers and mainly the Big Green Egg. If you like steak, you must try the T Rex method of cooking steaks. It is outstanding.
I have a v-rack from BGE, really handy for cooking roasts and etc. I use drip pans constantly and a 9X12 will fit the v-rack perfectly. My wife buys the pans at yard sales for me for as little as a quarter. I line them with heavy duty foil and cook away.
Nice job on the table did you build that? The stain / sealer looks about the same color as mine Australian Teak.
BT, Thanks for the comment but it is the cypress table that the BGE comes with. The stain / sealer is from Lowe's and it called Cedar Tinsel. I love the look of cedar and this was the best way to convert a table to "cedar".
I got a pretty good deal from Appliance Direct in Huntsville on the BGE, table w/wheels, charcoal, grill grabber, ash tool, video and cookbook. I called the six dealers of BGE in the Huntsville area and Appliance Direct beat the the next closest for all that got by $250.00.
