Questions on the BGE

Share

Can it take the place of the two cookers that I have ?

The little smokie to grill burgers / hot dogs / sausage etc...etc...etc ?

The big smoker to smoke a brisket / butt / ribs ...etc...etc ? Not necessarily all at one time .

How easy is it to maintain a temp ? With the big smoker I am never more than a few feet away to add logs , or open a flue ...etc...etc to try and keep the temp constant.

Re: Questions on the BGE

I would say the BGE is the perfect do it all cooker for a small family of up to 5. I can cook a 17 pound turkey on mine, do a full brisket, cook a pork roast and a beef roast at the same time. have done 3 beer butt chickens at once and it will do pizza, 10 lb hamburgers and racks of ribs.

I still have a gas grill for when we want something quick and I still keep my big smoker for when we have large gatherings about 3-4 times a year. Anytime you are cooking for more than half a dozen people and it ain't hot dogs you need a bigger pit or another BGE.

Something about the BGE that I seldom see mentioned is how little charcoal it actually uses. After cooking close off the vents and the fire goes out. Stir the ashes and that left over charcoal can be used again.

Thanks Bayou. My smoker is a big monster and with a small deck , I want to make some extra room. So I am thinking I will get rid of the smoker and go with a BGE.

Re: Questions on the BGE

You could make the deck bigger

Another option is if you have the yard space to build a BBQ pavilion with maybe an eat at bar with sink, a small fridge and some lights, ceiling fan and outlets. 12X12, 10X12 or maybe 10X15 would be a good size. A folding picnic table or two for larger gatherings is all you need. Think of the back yard fun. The pavilion could double as an outdoor Tiki bar and it's that much less grass to mow.

If only I could. My back yard is basically a postage stamp.

That being the case a BGE could be in your future. The regular Egg with stand takes up very little space. It has two fold down work tables which should help or you could build a table for it to sit in. I wonder if anyone has thought to build one into the end of a picnic table?

Tex the BGE will even take the place of an oven using the plate setter.
