What's on the menu for the 4th?

I need some idea's but right now I am thinking of yard bird 1/4s, ribs and the rest is up in the air but along with some cold beer since the temps have hovered near 100 since last week in North Alabama.

A question for the BGE owners, have you ever cooked a shoulder on the BGE and how big was it? I have a large BGE and was wondering would would it be big enough for a shoulder?

If you can close the lid, the BGE will cook it!!!

The Family and I will drive up to Gulf Shores this friday. A friend of mine who lives there will be cooking a whole hog on the 4th and I've been elected to help . Sunday, Montgomery Gentry is playing at the Warf and we plan on attending.........if we are still able after Saturday night

Should be a lot of fun

Re: What's on the menu for the 4th?

I might cook a burger or something for the 4th. Down here they celebrate Bastille Day on July 14 but it's nothing like in real France. There is usually a little parade with a military unit and band and some parties just because it's a holliday. We will go to a party rather than have one.

I'm thinking simple ... maybe burgers, hot dogs & conecuh sausage on the grill. On the other hand, a "low country boil" sure sounds good too!!!

Pork Chops, grilled cabbage and smoked baked beans.
That's close to what we are having tomorrow night for dinner.
Fried Pork chops, smothered cabbage, baked sweet potato, big lima beans, cornbread & sliced tomatoes.

Re: What's on the menu for the 4th?

I made my 1st attempt at beer-and-brats, and they turned out pretty good.

From Food Network:

1 Vidalia onion (chopped)

12 brats

1/2 stick butter

Beer to cover brats in pot.

Boil brats for 15 mins, all the while heating up the grill.

Place brats on grill until grill marks appear on brats.

Place brats back in pot until ready to serve.

Any onion will do and you have to have peppers. Put brat on bun, add mustard then add some of the onions and peppers from the pot.
