You Make the Call - Oct 22

Sorry - couple of days late:

The home team scores a TD. They choose to go for two, and during the conversion attempt throw a pass. The pass is completed for the two points, but the back judge throws a flag for defensive pass interference. What is the offense's choices?

Take the points or half the distance to the goal (makes no sense to do.)

My guess is that since the play was not over when the penalty happened, they can't take the penalty on the ensuing kick-off.

HINT:

In high school, dead-ball fouls (those after the play is over) are always enforced from the succeeding spot.

Live-ball fouls (with some exceptions) are enforced from the basic spot, which may be the preceeding spot, the end of the run or kick, or the spot of the foul, depending on the circumstances.

Jref - good hints. Since the foul occurred on a scoring play (the exception Jref was talking about), the penalty would be administered on the succeeding spot, which is the kickoff. The home team would be kicking off from the visitor's 45 yd line.
