Shannon Brown steps down at Bob Jones

Shannon Brown resigned as football coach at Bob Jones High School on Friday morning, suggesting he would consider a move into administration.

"I need to take a little time off and get my thoughts cleared up," said Brown, who was 28-28 in five years at Bob Jones, including this season's 7-5 record that ended with a 14-0 loss to Huntsville in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs.

The resignation comes less than a week after Ronny Massey was forced out as coach at Grissom.

Bob Jones principal Robby Parker indicated Brown - a former defensive lineman at the University of Alabama and with the NFL's Atlanta Falcons - could be interested in an administrative position at the school.

I have some friends who have kids at Bob Jones. This caught me off guard.

Is this the same Shannon Brown that played under Stallings?

I have a friend who is on the coaching staff there. I had heard rumblings of this coming. Nothing bad though. Sounds like he is just tired.

Had he ever been a head coach before Bob Jones? I wonder if the job was just too overwhelming.
