Red's ball, 4th and 5 from the White 8 yard line. Red lines up in a field goal formation with #12 on one knee at the 15 yard line in a position to hold for the kick. On the snap, Red #84 circles around behind Red #12. Red #12, without rising from his kneeling position, tosses the ball over his shoulder to #84 who runs untouched into the endzone. What is the call?

I say touchdown because I know the holder can legally receive the ball with his knee on the ground and then get up and run. What I am not sure of is "does the holder have to take his knee off of the ground before he makes a play other than holding the ball for the kicker". Krymsonman
In Alabama that is ruled as illegal touching. Five yard and loss of down or PA try. Holder knee has to be off the ground oor he has to lift knee of the ground

I think your answer is right.
One thing, it is not just Alabama....48 states play by NFHS rules. Only Texas and Massachusetts play by NCAA rules and those two states still have differences than what you actually will see on Saturdays.
Interesting guesses. The correct ruling: The ball is dead as soon as the pitch is made and White takes over on the 15. This is another difference in high school and college rules. In order for the holder to do anything other than put the ball down for the kick, he must raise his knee off of the ground. If he hands, pitches or throws the ball from his knee, the ball is dead at that spot.
What's interesting is that after LSU successfully ran that play against Auburn a couple of years ago, we immediately began to see HS & youth teams try it.
They didn't understand that there is a difference in the rules, and it died a quick and painful death.

If only coaches would stop yelling the pass was uncatchable or the QB was outside the tackle box (pass interference and grounding)
