That seems about right. Expect a full scale war now that there are TWO vacancies and the need to name a Chief Justice.

"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

The President will have to pick his battle.

Iraq?

Katrina?

A partisan war over the CJ?

Just what this country needs: Another divisive issue. He would do well to nominate a centrist who is acceptable to both parties, and start about the business of rebuilding the country and finding a way out of Iraq.

Because it is George W, Bush, if he were to nominate Alan Dershowitz, the bloodhounds would go after him.

There is not a "centrist" alive that will have something dredged up from thirty years ago that is questionable, appearing racist or homophobic and whatnot.

This is the one issue we can all be pessimists over.

I guess that fake preacher who was praying for more Supreme Court vacancies is now happy.

Smear Boats are at the ready on both sides.

These days, it pays for a candidate to never rule on any substantive issue. Be a blank slate.

The result: David Souter.

Get ready for the Bill of Rights to be overruled as inconsistent with "community standards".

Which is worse? To be swiftboated, or borked?

I don't think being Borked or swiftboated is as bad as Cheneying yourself.
