The cheapest gas I saw this morning was in Dover, NJ at the Worrco, $2.77 for regular. This lady that I work with spotted $2.70 up the road in Dover at the Delta.
June gasoline futures are down, and they are usually very high as prices rise due to increased summer driving - so the summer might not get as bad as some had forcast...
In my email this morning, I received a copy of an article calling for a National Gas out Day, May 15. This article encourages everyone to refrain from buying any gasoline on that day.
"NO GAS...On May 15th 2007"
In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.
On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.
There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.
If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 out of the oil companies pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.
I have not investigated this to determine it's accuracy. I have noticed that certain chain stores have a tendency to raise their prices prior to a holiday, especially those in which they are expecting heavy traffic. If it were up to me, I would not stop at one day a year. I would prefer that we have a monthly gas out day.
Bama Reb, I doubt that there is any real documentation behind that. A better protest would to stop driving on a specific day. That would have an effect. Those who dont buy on a specific date but keep on driving simply buy on the next day.
I don't want to sound too harsh here, but does anyone think that Shell, Exxon, etc. will give a rats behind if Americans decide not to buy gas on a particular day, or stop driving on a particular day? Stop using gas for a day and you cost them billions - as long as you don't make up that consumption on another day. If you wind up making up that consumption within a month, the oil companies will see no difference in their revenues. None.
Any meaningful protest has to include a sustained decrease in consumption...

I doubt that a Gas Out Day would have much of an effect. Unless you've got a Mr. Fusion attached to your car, you have to return to the gas station eventually.

"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

My RDS stock says "No, we don't care if you don't buy for one day."
