Hmm, The possibility of the sun setting on this thread is growing as the minutes pass. If it makes it til morning I'll share everything thats in my pockets with everyone thats posted in it. What I'm wearing doesnt have pockets but that doesnt mean I believe this one will make it.

This thread makes me sick at my stomach. Day after day we see posts gloating over who gets arrested at Miami, Florida State, South Carolina, Tennessee and our other rivals. Yet, when one of our own gets arrested, it must be that the cops are wrong. Please, please take off your rose colored glasses and admit that the cops are not always wrong, and that our players are not little lord fauntleroys who spend Saturday evenings at church. Believe me, you don't want to have the police responsibility to monitor bar parking lots on Saturday night.
As big a Bama fan as I am, I must say it gets tiresome reading how persecuted we are by every official body from the NCAA to the Tuscaloosa police. For heavens sake, the local policemen are probably some of the biggest Tide fans around.
THEY were out to get us for Albert Means.
THEY are out to get us in parking lots of local bars.
WE'RE NOT PARANOID, THEY really are out to get us.
Please keep in mind that never once, no, not even once, has anyone shown that our people did not do the things for which we were punished. Quite the contrary, the NCAA demonstrated beyond any reasonable doubt that our backers did do the things of which they were accused. Do you recall that the University really did not put up any kind of defense against the charges? And for good reason. They were true, and we must face that fact. Even we as fans accepted that the charges were true and turned to specious arguments about NCAA "tactics" and vindictiveness. We could not argue the case, so we argued the methods.
Have you never heard of noblesse oblige? Our players are accorded every possible perq from adulation to worship. And for that privilege the players have responsibilities to their fans, chief among which is the responsibility not to do stupid things like get drunk and start fights in bar parking lots after midnight on a Saturday night/Sunday morning. Great damage has been done to our reputation, and no kind of police apology can erase it. In fact, the fallout from a police apology would simply give credence to those who want to believe that our people cheat. I do not live in Alabama and talk sports with fans from major Universities all over the east coast. To a person they think we cheat, and incidents like this one just make my life miserable when I have to face them and hear the smugness in their accusations of "what do you expect? It's another Alabama thing."
For heavens sake let's get over this persecution insanity and get on to winning football games. President Witt and the University administration have gone to great lengths to correct a bad situation and put our recent bad past behind us. Now, let's us as fans also put these bad things behind and never, never assume that behind every charge there is a sweet little innocent Bama backer who is clean as a whistle and gentle as a lamb.
I am now prepared to suffer the slings and arrows of every ad hominem epithet in the book. You folks have shown the propensity to react that way. I sincerely hope that the mods will let this post stand, because it will show exactly the kinds of attitude I have addressed above. I love Alabama. I love the Crimson Tide. I love the University. But I tire of the holier than thou attitude that our coaches, backers and players can do no wrong.
We could accomplish great things if we accepted that bad things can happen and demanded that perps get punished. We should demand that people in positions of responsibility not let Alabama be dragged through any more mud. Our great University deserves nothing less than our best effort.
Dude he was horsing around with some buddies. And you will never, ever get one ounce of defense for the NCAA out of me. I actually agree with about 50% of what you said...the other half is hogwash.

I love cops, i love what they do, i love that they go out and put their life on the line so that i can sit here and post on a football forum thats awesome.
I hate getting tickets, i hate getting fines, I've never been arrested but I'm pretty sure I'd hate it.
Logical people can see the difference, don't hate the player hate the game for all the young uns out there
Cops don't make the laws and the rules, i'm sure there are some rules that cops hate, they're just doing there jobs.
Some, SOME cops do enjoy the power a little too much, but a majority of police officers are just doing their jobs and protecting the public. Thank you officers for what you do.
In any profession you will find people who take advantage of the power they are given and law enforcement is no different.
Thanks UAPD.

Noblesse Oblige IMO does not fit the circumstances of a student athlete other than he should not let down his team mates and the athletes owe the fan nothing other than to entertain them on game day. Team rules should be adhered to and anyone not obeying team rules or civil laws should be held accountable to whichever authority they answer to. I agree no one should embarrass the university but who is to say who should be held more accountable. Athletes, professors, scholarship students, band members, coaches and even ticket holders, all should be held to a standard but we have to give people some space to breathe. Keeping everyone in a jar like some insect on display without any freedom is cruel.
you are entitled to your opinion but I disagree with your broad generalizations. Every situation, incident or case should be judged on its own merits and not on previous events which are not relevant. It is wrong to say we are incapable of objective discourse because we are ardent Bama fans.
I did not read a single post on this board defending Brandon Deadrick's behavior a few weeks back. In fact, the threads initially posted regarding the Castille arrest were quite accusatory and harsh which undermines your theory of persecution.
IMO, Simeon Castille broke no laws and was inappropriately arrested but we should wait and let all of the facts come out.

It will be interesting to hear how CNS handles this one in the press. Is he going to say that the TPD made a mistake and jump the gun by arresting Castille? Or is he just going to avoid the issue all together?
We see what kind of uproar Marvin Lewis caused in Cincinnati when he made the accusation that cops "look for" professional athletes to pull over. He came back and apologized.
So if this arrest was nothing more than a quick triggered officer with bad judgment will CNS just call it as it is and "call out" the TPD when addressing this issue in the press? Because if this is a mistake he's GOT TO stand behind Castille publicly and specifically say he wasn't in the wrong. If he doesn't say anything the perception will not be good.....at all.

Unfortunately questionable arrests of football players on the strip is not new. I've seen them arrested for doing nothing more than the other 800 students were doing, When I was in school I was convinced a bunch of Auburn fans worked for the TPD.

Well if, and that's a big IF, Castille was carried to jail with absolutely no reason whatsoever, then obvious the TPD has some bad apples. And if that's the case (another big IF), would it be wise to give them even more incentive to falsely arrest other athletes?
