I am actually torn on this. Undoubtedly the first statement someone will make is, "well, if they're old enough to go to war/be considered an adult - they are old enough to drink."
On the other hand, I look at my 18 year old little brother and all his buddies, and think to myself: "Thank God they aren't allowed to buy alcohol."
It was tried a few years ago and then set back to 21 again.

It should be 18....no doubt about it. I always thought that once my generation got into political power, this silly law would be abolished.
And I love how they say that lowering the drinking age has cut down on accidents for people 18-20. I am sure that if they raised the drinking age to 30, it would cut down on accidents for people between the ages of 21-29 too.
I think most anyone who drank before they were 21 will agree with me on parts of this.
I never drank until I got to college, so my first 2 or 3 years are a little hazier than my last few. Between the ages of 18-20, me and my friends enjoyed the partying lifestyle. Pretty much everyone I knew who was under 21 enjoyed the partying lifestyle. However, the day I turned 21 partying sort of seemed like a thing of the past.
Now it's not a big deal to drink a beer or a mixed drink. Before I was 21 I would go crazy at a party and have waaay more than I should have. But when I turned 21 I sort of felt like "man this is so beneath me" Most of the people I knew pretty much seemed to grow up overnight the day they turned 21. We could all legally drink now, but for some reason, we all drank less.
It's kind of like driving. Between the ages of 13-15 all you can think about is getting your license and when you turn 16 it's such a huge ordeal. But after about 2 or 3 weeks you're like "eh this isn't as cool as I thought."
I agree with CrimsonCT, "Responsibility breeds maturity." The people who want to drink at the age of 18 already do. Just make it legal and make them more accountable for their actions.

If you are old enough to fight a war, you are old enough to drink.
As long as you have a Sargent keeping you in line.

First off, I believe this should be a state issue, not a federal issue.
Secondly, kids drink alcohol no matter what the drinking age. They can vote and die for their country at 18; they should be able to legally walk into a bar and order a beer.
I know that MADD is a big mover in this debate, but I gotta wonder if colleges aren't pushing to retain the higher drinking age as well. My freshman year in Bama (81), I was only a year away from being legal--the age went up the following year. Never got carded once, not even at ABC stores.
My guess is that a lower drinking age is the LAST thing Papa Witt wants to see return to the Capstone.

"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."
