Ok, this is kind of off the wall, and would require some sort of scientific test to prove or disprove, I'm hoping some of you on here that have the access to run said tests can pull this off. So here's the question....Will grape juice ferment in a pressurized environment? Anybody got any ideas?

Re: off the wall question about the fermentation of grape juice
Not really scientific, but the fermentation creates pressure in a sealed container and can burst the container. Also, grape juice ferments better/faster under lower pressure.
The pressure required to prevent fermentation would have to be greater than the pressure the fermentation creates.
I also know that homemade wine put in a large mason jar and sealed, if the fermentation process is not fully complete, will break the jar.
It would have to be a lot of pressure. You'd need an air compressor or something and a very strong container. Not sure how you'd manage it at home.
The best way to keep it from fermenting is adding preservatives, vacuum sealing, and refrigeration.

Re: off the wall question about the fermentation of grape juice
I'm not trying to keep it from fermenting. I'm just wondering if kept under pressure, if it will stop the fermentation process. From your post I think you are saying the increased pressure will slow the process down. I'm thinking something along the lines of a glass of juice in a hyperbaric chamber or something.

That might work but, like I said, it would have to be a lot of pressure.
Out of curiosity, why do you ask?

Re: off the wall question about the fermentation of grape juice
My boss's girlfriend gave me some of this dessert concoction she had made to take home in a leftover dish. I can't remember what she called it, but it had some purple in it, like grapes or blueberries or something. Anyhow, by the time I got around to pulling it out of the frig and pulling the lid off of it, it smelled like it had definitely fermented. I threw it out, and next time I saw her I told her that I had really enjoyed it and that she was a great cook.
Hope this helps.

when I'm under pressure, I drink fermented grape juice. So to answer your question, I have a dog named Brodie.
Do you name all your pets after Bama QBs?
