I woke up yesterday morning and there was a polar bear in my pool. I fed him a few baby seals and he was on his way.

And there was a time when Alabama was covered in ice. Believe it are not humans and cars were not on the earth at that time.
The whole earth was covered with miles of ice at one time, thats not the point. The point is that most scientists believe that man is causing climate change, its changing relatively quickly, and this climate change will have dire social and economic and environmental consequences.
Just because the earth has gone through warming & cooling cycles without mans influence doesn't mean that man is not influencing it now. Its bad enough that natural cycles will eventually have their consequences, its worse that we are causing these ourselves on an accelerated schedule.

Re: Polar regions found warming fast

Scientist are not always right. I am told they once believe the earth was flat. The earth may be warming, but I refuse to believe it is because of man's influence. There are too many factors influencing the climate that do not involve mankind's activity on earth.

The earth always has gone through warming cycles, followed by periods of cooling. Climate change happens; life goes on. Spending trillions of dollars to try to influence the climate is a complete waste.

When you say "most scientists" believe climate change is caused by man, is there a statistic? How many scientists are there? How many of those say climate change is man-made?

I haven't seen the numbers.

In the (19)70s Time Magazine ran a story on how scientists thought we were heading towards an Ice Age and by 2000, we could already be seeing cooler weather...

Yeah, that's it. This whole global warming thing is just seasonal. Now why didn't these stupid scientists think of that.
Are these the same scientists that Al Gore quotes?

"The more CO2, the warmer the weather." ???

I don't put much thought into this hoax. Temperatures fluctuate in cycles of about a decade, as hot as the late 90s and early 2000s were, and yet the summer of 2006 was one of the coolest in many, many years. I guess those same scientists disregard things that don't agree with the garbage they're pushing in the public schools.

Therein lies the crux of the issue. We have absolutely no way of knowing, much less proving, whether and how much of an impact we are actually having on the environment.

You say that we are accelerating the process, but what is this based on. There isn't a weather model available that can take weather data collected from 50-100 years ago and accurately predict the last 50 years of climate change without factor adjustments of 10%-20%. Yet these same models are supposed to accurately predict what would be the normal rate of climate change without man's involvement?

Perhaps if this were the fastest rate of climate change in history then that could serve as evidence, but that is not even the case.

The bottom line is that we cannot prove what effect we are having, much less if we can actually do anything about it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of common sense conservation. Alternative fuels, more efficient and cleaner forms of industry, reduced pollution, cleaner air and water, these are all good things.

Spending trillions of dollars to put billions of tiny mirrors into space to give the Earth a cool new pair of space sunglasses is ludicrous.

Re: Polar regions found warming fast

There was ice in Alabama a long time ago. It took a VERY long time to change to climate we have. The speed at which the climate is accelerating is a lot faster than it should. I really don't feel like I need to prove it to anyone anymore. There is NO debate that the climate is changing. Whether you believe that it is man made or not is up to you. I don't think that it is much of debate over the manmade argument. The data completely supports that the climate is changing due to man's interference.

No matter how many times this is dispelled, it keeps coming back. I give up.

Only in layman circles.

If there were no debate then why are so many scientist bent on the issue?

Re: Polar regions found warming fast

let it melt, let the climate change and let the world go straight to hell.

I could care less. I would only lose things that I would give anything now to be without.

Some scientists do claim that global warming is NOT manmade. However, most of the evidence is overwhelming. But it is definitely possible that it could all be not manmade. It is also possible that electrons DONT rotate around the nucleus. The climate is definitely changing. Honestly, I used to blindly believe that global warming was manmade. However, it really took me learning how the sun warms the Earth, climate patterns, wind patterns, and solar driven circulation to really understand the whole concept of global warming. It is much more complicated than the media, Al Gore, or anyone in "layman" circles really understand. Global warming is probably a terrible name for what is happening. Climate change is a much better term.
For instance, the biggest changes in climate will be at the poles. Here, some projections have Alabama as a whole not raising to extreme temperatures like most believe. Alabama will simply become dryer and our nights will become warmer. Global warming does not mean everyone will never see snow and that Alabama will suddenly average 110 degrees everyday. That is NOT what climate change is claiming. As I have said before it is WAY more complicated than simple temperature raising. Like someone will take a scientific report that claims that Alabama has not seen drastic temperature upgrades in the last 10 years. Then a news report will claim Global warming is NOT happening when the climate is changing. Temperature does not equal climate. I think most people think a lot more scientists disagree with climate change than there really are.
