Sad news. I know the Samson and Geneva areas well(near Dothan), and wish them all the best in healing from this senseless tragedy.

Killed his mother, grandparents, an aunt and uncle, strangers and even some dogs. It's scary to think that there are walking time-bombs out there like this guy that we'd never suspect.

What Im wondering is where did he get all of that ammo and the assault rifle? The person who sold that to him needs to be held accountable too. There is no reason to have those kind of weapons,I dont care what people say. You cant buy three bottles of sudafed at walmart but you can buy cases of ammo. There needs to be new regs for ammo and weapons.
There are no reasons to kill children.Guy was a pathetic excuse for a person.I live in Geneva County and just find this unbelieveable.

I really don't like taking the immediate aftermath of a tragic event and using it to argue ideals or the like but since the subject has been broached I will respond.
In time we will learn more details and become aware of almost all facts, including how he got the weapons, etc... In previous rampages we have found information that weapons were acquired illegally or that people were aware of the individual's mental instability and those things might be relevant. Irregardless though, the blame clearly lies with the individual.
After Columbine we heard almost everything blamed, video games, music, guns and even bullies. Those were not to blame. It was two sadistic bastards. You could remove any, and most likely all of those things and they still would have gone on a rampage. The problem is their desire to kill innocent people.
Rampages have been committed with knives, vehicles and even a sword. Quite often they have ended when someone else ( gasp!) happened to have a gun. As we know, Kool-Aid or a unarmed aircraft can be used to kill hundreds or thousands of people. If someone has a intent to kill someone and has no concern for their own well being, only something like the Secret Service has a decent chance of stopping them.
When someone decides they want to kill innocent people, they have done a horrendous thing and there is no excuse or valid explanation for their actions. This particular individual had been a cop, in a slightly different scenario he could have been doing this with a police issued firearm. The best way to handle people like this (provided you can't see it coming), it to kill them as soon as they start... and I hope people have the means to do this.
I fear we will see more instances like this, since the combination of media coverage and hard times might encourage the sick minded amongst us. However, we shouldn't sink into mislaying blame. It won't be the media or the economy's fault anymore than Boeing was responsible for 911 (which could have been prevented by a couple guns) or Dauhphin Island Bridge was responsible for the death of those children. Some people are just sick people and I just hope the first person they kill is them self.

But it's not the guns that do the killing, it's the sick bastards that use them to kill innocent people. These deranged individuals are in the same category as the 9/11 hijackers.
The fact of the matter is that this has nothing to do with types of weapons, just individuals who choose to use them for terrorist purposes. Had these guys not had firearms, they would likely have used knives, bricks or baseball bats. IMO this incident is little reason to jump up on a gun control soapbox.

Like you, I don't think this will be an isolated instance, and this is not the time to enact some knee-jerk solution. There are no quick fixes to prevent this from happening again. At least none that don't carry with them unintended consequences (stricter gun laws, etc.).

There was nothing political or moral involved in this incident. It was purely mental. Turning it political is not moral in my opinion but, for the record I'm pro-gun anti-idiot.

im always amazed by how dumb the media can be. how after something like this happens they always come out with some breaking news about how the shooter has "mental issues." hmmmm he just killed a bunch of people for no reason...... ummmm yeah.... id say that is indicative of mental issues.
