For a long time, we had an unwritten policy on TideFans that we did not allow posters to have a "signature" with any political statement. We have sort of gotten away from that, and we do have some members who have a political statement or political philosophy as their signature.
While we have decided to allow the political signatures to remain, we do need to look closer at what those statements say. When Non-Sports regulars go to other boards and post, that particular signature may not be well received. For instance if my signature reads "I am a flaming Communist" and I go to BamaLuver's Grillin and Chillin Board, old Aunt Martha, who's WWII husband of 65 years recently passed away, may not appreciate my worldview.
For these type of reasons, we ask that you use any political (in nature) signature on Non-Sports only. Let's keep the mud where it belongs.
If you have a signature that is political in nature, please review it. Use your discretion as to whether or not it is appropriate or whether or not it is going to ignite a war. If it's not appropriate, change or remove it.
Sigs are a poster's privilege. We reserve the right to ask members to change them when we deem it necessay.
Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

Keep in mind, also, that there is an option to display your signature or not when you make a post.
During the election, I tended to have a signature, and I was always self-editing my posts on The Strip, the Football or Grilling forums because I didn't think I wanted to wear my politics on my sleeve over there.
Most importantly: Use your common sense. We all know when something we put on our sig will raise the hackles of other folks. Resist the urge to be "in-your-face!"

My signature is a perfect example of complying with this policy.... or something.
By the way, it's nice to say that Afghanistan is now in my rearview mirror. And, since this is kind of a highjack, let me add that my company is doing it's best to save taxpayer's money, as evidenced by my 5 hour layover at Dallas-Fort Worth last night as part of my long journey back home. Ugh.

I've seen one of these on one of the other boards that kind of wrankled me, but I figured, heh, let it go. I can respect someone's opinion or viewpoint in a particular thread but I don't want to read it every time someone posts about something else unrelated. It just seems meant to stir things up.
Words can be used for hate/slander, but why not use them for good & positive input. You never know who it might impact.
Anyhoo, I got more important things to worry about than what somebodys redneck political views are. I was kinda surprised it was allowed though.
