I am not saying all marriages are perfect but for those of us who take it seriously, that work at it because we care for and love our spouses, because our spouses love and care for us makes it special. It's more than just that lovey-dovey euphoric feeling you get when you see the other person your married too. It's knowing that year after year your lives are intertwined and each others lives are enriched and both are more successful because of the commitement to each other and what that means.
Stats show that less than 50% of marriages are 'happy'. Gays have already begun to realize this for themselves the hard way.

that for 99% of married couples who love each other and are indeed committed to each other it's more than just an "arrangement".

With that said, I'll exit the thread and thank all of you for tolerating this exchange.
unfortunately that 99% only represents 12% of all marriages. i think this is a fun thread, feel free to keep posting.

50% of marriages end in divorce. 50% of the remaining marriages stay married but are completely miserable. A following 50% of the remainder are just too apathetic to care and simply can't wait to die. ie 12.5% are actually happy and want to be together.

Probably sounds pretty sappy and I'm far from the most eloquent writer but I am trying to convey that for 99% of married couples who love each other and are indeed committed to each other it's more than just an "arrangement".
i agree with all of this and i fully believe that gay people should be able to enter into marriage to enjoy these things.

Re: Miss California responds to gay marriage question

This thread is hysterical.

Marraige is a religious ceremony. A sacred oath between a man and a woman. Why all of these atheist types are so concerned about homosexuals having the right to marraige is beyond me. How is it again that religion should be controlled by our government? Have all of the civil unions you want. have all of the free and open relationships you want. just keep the filth away from our religious practices. I think this is the main reason atheist are rallying so hard behind the homosexuals (no pun intended). They see it as a way to taint religion. What other explanation is there? I doubt very seriously that you straight guys could at two males "loving" each other without getting sick. I would bet no straight guy would wish this own their own sons or brothers. Seriously. Now two beautiful females loving it would be a much more interesting scenerio for most any guy I know.

If you guys are so dead set on having our government paying for civil unions for same sex individuals then so be it. I just hope you do not discriminate against non sexual partners (friends, siblings, child/parent) pairing up or people pairing up with multiple partners. The government should have to pay for these type relationships too...right? How ridiculous should we get? Lawyers will love this.

My take is that our government as other governments have recognized the marraige between a man and a woman because it benefits society. Regardless of what some choose to believe, this type relationship is how we reproduce as human beings. This is a traditional relationship in many societies and is a pro family relationship. The sacred commitment of marraige ideally would not lend to the spread of disease and the moral, family type atmosphere is ideal for raising children. Surely special cases will be cited but these are the overall benefits to society that i think most countries recognize.

It is odd that this is such a hot topic as Obama talks about the morals and values of this country. The only time I've heard him speak of morals and values is when he speaks about how we treat captured terrorist who want to kill Americans. He is concerned about morals and values when he dwells on how we treat such prisoners, yet; he wanted to take away military benefits from our soldiers injured in combat. He is for the killing of pre born and post born American babies and has no concerns over the torture involved here. This has to be the most immoral POTUS we have ever had. I can see why he is the champion of the far left.

Re: Miss California responds to gay marriage question

I feel sorry for this girl. All she did was give her opinion on a subject and all the lefties attack her and then proceed to find out every bad stupid thing she has ever done.

Now I wake up every day and hope that no one will stick a microphone and camera in my face and ask my opinion.

I'd love to have that happen to me. Of course I'd probably be branded looney by some outfit and lampooned on the fake news channels. It'd be entertaining though. And then I could leverage my new found fame and get on Dancing with the Stars. Or Celebrity Rehab.
