I'm a fan of Puerto Rican rum. Don Q is my favorite. All varieties of Don Q are smooth and don't upset my insides like some other rums have been known to do.

Hurricane Dean in 2007 destroyed about 85% of the crops on Martinique and did some severe damage to some of the distilleries. Rum has to pass some rigid standards before it can be bottled and sold as Martinique Rhum (rum) and it is some of the best in the world winning gold and double gold awards in taste tests. The loss of the crops and damage to the distilleries slowed production down for a while but they are up and running again. Anyone visiting the island should visit some of the distilleries just to walk through the gardens. My wife's family has produced sugar cane on Martinique for over 100 years and the entire crop goes to Habitat Clement for their rum production.
I guess my question for all three of you should have been-are we talking about a sipping rum or one to be used in mixed drinks & what do you mix it with? Sorry to hijack the thread.
Geez, some of you folks really take this drinking thing seriously. A real cold beer works for me and I'm not too fussy about the brand.

IMO (and forgive me, bayou, but I've never tried Clement rum) Don Q Cristal is the best thing out there for mixing rum drinks. The aged varieties are best for sipping neat, or on the rocks (if you must). Those would be Don Q Anejo and Grand Anejo.
All that said, I'm still a Jack Daniel's girl - Gentleman Jack, to be specific.

The Premiere Canne is best for mixed drinks and umbrella drinks. All of them are good mixed with a little sugar water and soda with a bit of lime which is a popular drink down here almost like a Mojito. I'm not much into sipping rum although the Cuvee Homere and XO are made just for that occasion. The Creole Spice can also be used in mixed drinks that call for dark rum. If you can peel it or skin it and fit it in a blender you can make a rum drink out of it.

The ones I gave you are sipping rums. Being as you said you are a Glenlivet man, I assume you are sipping that, at least you better be. I'm a fan of rum agricole, meaning made from sugar cane, as bayou alluded to. I wouldn't mix any of the 5 I gave you with anything. If I want a cuba libre I'll use Mount Gay Spiced Rum and for my mojitos I use Appleton Estates Silver.

Girl after my own heart-nothing like Gentleman Jack!!
Well...I'm late to this party so to speak as it's 5:40AM here at the moment..
I was off Friday and spent my day with a round of golf followed up by lunch and a trip to Sams's Club where I bought 2 10 lb. bone in Boston Butts for low and slow smoking on Saturday.
Drink of Choice - ice ice cold vodka martini's before dinner, good Chilean Malbec with dinner and afterwards a single malt scotch whisky and a good cigar.
So..it's Saturday early morning and I have the smoker fired up already and the pork butts are on and I'm now on to coffee and Tide Fans.
Happy Fourth to you all and even though we all don't agree on a lot of things over on Non-Sports we do have at least 2 things in common:
1. A passionate love for our great country - celebrate the day and your families
2. Roll Tide Roll!!!! September 5th will be here soon..
