White House to Dems: "Punch Back Twice as Hard"

Share

From The Drudge Report:

White House to Democrats: 'Punch back twice as hard' - Carrie Budoff Brown - POLITICO.com

Top White House aides gave Senate Democrats a recess battle plan on Thursday, arming the lawmakers with tips for avoiding disastrous town hall meetings while showing them polling on popular aspects of the reform effort.

Senior White House adviser David Axelrod and deputy chief of staff Jim Messina told senators to focus on the insured and how they would benefit from “consumer protections" in the overhaul, such as ending the practice of denying insurance based on preexisting conditions and ensuring the continuity of coverage between jobs.

They showed video clips of the confrontational town halls that have dominated the media coverage, and told senators to do more prep work than usual for their public meetings by making sure their own supporters turn out, senators and aides said.

And they screened TV ads and reviewed the various campaigns by critics of the Democratic plan.

(((“If you get hit, we will punch back twice as hard,” Messina said, according to an official who attended the meeting. )))

************************************************** *****

The Chicago thuggery strong-arm methods again. What about the anti-war leftists when they were/are protesting? What about the pro-abortion protests/rallies? What about WHENEVER the libs are out yelling and screaming?

So why can't regular hard-working Americans do likewise when their freedom is threatened by this president?

"They pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. *That's* the *Chicago* way!"

Nan, do you honestly believe that Republicans don't use hardball tactics? Did Karl Rove and Dick Cheney keep people in line by bringing them tasty baked goods?

Quote:

I suspect that they are referring to things like this:

Quote:
Rep. Steve Kagen (D-WI) faced a “heated” discussion about health care at a town hall meeting yesterday, with people in the crowd who were heckling, interrupting, and filibustering him.

One vocal attendee was a woman named Heather Blish, who identified herself as “just a mom from a few blocks away” and “not affiliated with any political party.” When interviewed by the local NBC affiliate, Blish insisted she was not a member of the Republican Party. “I left the party,” she said.

Her LinkedIn page shows something different. She was the vice chair of the Republican Party of Kewaunee County until last year. She worked on the John Gard campaign, who ran unsuccessfully against Kagen last year. And it says she’s a part of the Republican Party for Kagen’s district, as well as the Republican Party of Wisconsin, and the Republican National Committee.
Now, she certainly has a right to speak her mind--but why be so evasive about her background?

"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

What do you expect? Much of the apparent grass roots opposition is actually well orchestrated and well funded. They have to do something to respond.

Re: White House to Dems: "Punch Back Twice as Hard"

I understand the Dems position on this.

They need some union goons to help keep those AARP geezers mouth's shut.

Besides, if you had go out in the public and defend this bill, you'd want some muscle behind you, too.

How is it well orchestrated and well funded? People show in their home town or maybe go to the next town to a townhall meeting and that's orchestrated. That sounds just the way ACORN and SEIU did when they protested Citi group's bonuses. They were brought in on buses on protested in front of people's houses. Now that is orchestrated and well funded not this. Put down the lib handbook and take a look at what is really happening.

Re: White House to Dems: "Punch Back Twice as Hard"

So the White House is determining the collective strategy for selling the healthcare bill... and the problem is?

Please tell me its not cause someone was quoting someone else as quoting Messina? I expect/hope that the Republicans are having a similar sort of meeting.

Re: White House to Dems: "Punch Back Twice as Hard"

The reason conservatives normally don't go out and protest everything under the sun like the unbathed leftists is because we normally have jobs.

The left has the playbook on violent and disruptive protests as well as shouting down opponents they disagree with. This turnabout is just showing how thin-skinned they really are.

Obama is just finding out what it is like to actually take a position and stick with it. On the campaign trail he could be all things to all people. As an executive he can't. Choices have consequences and this one will insure that he is a one-term president. I think that the Rep. are to inept to actually beat Obama but I am convince more each day that they will not have to. He is going to defest himself.

I'm not saying both sides dont do it. However, we are talking about health care reform here so it is the anti group thats busing them in now. All I am doing is supplying an answer as to why the pro group is in 'punch back' mode.

I guess all of those Tea Bag mettings were the unemployed neo cons. Come on, is that the best you can do? Both sides protest and that's all well and good, but taking your marching orders from big insurance and big drug companies is a whole different can of worms than doing your civic duty.

Really? See Tea Bag protests and other demagoguery. Thuggish behavior is right out of Karl Rove's handbook. That's why Rush and Glenn Beck are pushing it so hard. These people represent a small minority and are not wanting to discuss the real points. They will lose in the end like all thugs do.

The president contiues to have an approval rating over 60% and groups like AARP want helathcare reform, so we shall see in the long run.

Quote:
AARP believes the Obama administration and Congress must work together on a comprehensive health-reform plan that guarantees all Americans the choice of quality health care plans they can afford
And this from the AARP site "Myths vs Facts on Healthcare Reform"
Quote:
Myth: Health care reform is socialized medicine.
Fact: Health care reform will preserve the employer-based health care system, meaning an estimated 200 million Americans will continue to get their coverage through their employers.

Fact: For people buying coverage for themselves, there would be a range of private health plans to choose from. Also, the so-called "public plan" option would seek to give American consumers another choice if they can't find affordable, quality coverage in the private insurance market. The goal of the "public plan" is to give consumers the best value for their money and force greater competition among insurance plans for our business.

Fact: Every proposal that Congress is considering would allow people to choose their own doctors and hospitals.

Bottom Line: Health care reform isn't about a government takeover. It's about guaranteeing all Americans a choice of health care plans they can afford.

You still did not answer the question about funding or organization. Where are these people being bussed in from? Are they not constituents of the host congressmen and senators? I have not seen any widespread evidence of this bussing or organizing. Just some made up stuff on daily kos. What is so wrong with Americans getting involved and speaking their minds at town meetings? Do you expect everyone to be sheep and not question legislation that will have as big an impact as this?

Do you want me to turn in my guns now or is that in the next wave?
