I would just soon take a shotgun , stick it into any one of several orifice's and pull the trigger. I know some of our more liberal members may be aghast at something so barbaric. If they are....sue me. Someone broke into my vehicle and stole a few things including my garage door opener. They opened the door and made off with several power tools totaling about $400.

Wow! Sorry to hear about that. Around here, when that sort of thing happens, it is usually someone that knows you, which makes it worse.
Did they leave the opener remote behind? If not, you will want to change the frequency...
Nope and already changed the frequency. Doubtful it is someone we know. The local cops say there have been a rash of burglaries in the area. Just a crime of opportunity most likely.

Well, you have that going for you - means that they probably won't be back. I hope they catch the punks...
up here we have a gps stealing epidemic. i have always wanted to leave a fake gps on my carseat and booby trap it to explode about 15 seconds after it leaves my car. i despise thieves. id love to see them get beaten to death in the streets sometimes.

The thing that stinks the most about this kind of theft is its return. You paid $400 for that stuff, and they will probably get no more than $25 for it. What a waste...
Sorry about that Big Tex and I feel the same way you do. These people make me sick. They are too sorry to work for a living and want to take from those who do. There was some scum who was going around in our neighborhood stealing from mailboxes. One man had some checks stolen and happened to see it. He promptly reported it and they caught one person trying to cash a check later.
I leave my windows down with nothing in my truck. If someone wants to steal my tape deck then by all means go ahead. LoL. Seriously I understand your pain. I used to live close to downtown and while I loved the neighborhood, there was an extra element of crime compared to other neighborhoods. When OU played LSU for the championship I hosted a big party and 4 out of the 5 vehicles parked in my driveway were broken into. The only one that wasn't was my UNLOCKED vehicle with the windows down, lol.
While i think a few things my constitute shooting someone, I really don't think stealing does. It's just stuff. While it may hold some sort of sentimental value, it's all replaceable. My feelings are that the person probably needed it more than you. It's not right and they deserve punishment, but they must be in real bad shape to need to steal stuff....

I did the same thing when I lived on Long Island. I got tired of replacing side windows so they could steal the small change in my console.
I also learned to leave about $20 where it could be found (but not seen without getting in the car) in the front seating area. Most thieves were content to take the cash and get out of there, leaving my car unharmed.
If they are looking for enough money for a quick drug fix, they have it and are out of my life...

I had a somewhat similar conversation with this vegan hippy chick at work. I said if I ever caught someone breaking into my place, I would shoot to kill. She responded that simple items aren't worth a person's life. I agreed, however the sancitity of my home most certainly is.
The problem with a thief is much more than just taking something of little value. The problem is that they rob you of your ability to enjoy life. Anyone who has had their home broken into will tell you how hard it is to sleep through the night afterwards. It took two weeks before I could get a good night's sleep. Same with breaking into my car to steal a gps. I would look out my window about 10x/night for the next week. You also begin to distrust your neighbors and pedestrians. Basically, a thief doesn'y just take an object, he takes your ability to be at peace with the world. For that, he most certainly deserves to be whipped until he has no skin left.
