I think bamasoldier71 was referring to a doctor having to launch bullets on the "two-way rifle range."

The odds of MAJ Hasan having to shoot someone during a tour in Iraq were remote in the extreme.
On the other hand, he may well have had the chance to help dozens, maybe hundreds of Iraqis.
He chose to kill a dozen or so Americans instead of helping Iraqis.

I was. Good job though, SD. I will say that one of my least favorite duties as an NCO was range safety at a M9 range. I don't know how many times I had to shout, "Sir/Ma'am/Chief, keep your weapon pointed downrange!"

I thought he was tabbed for Afghanistan, but regardless.... 99.99% chance he would have been at Balad or Bagram. Either way, he probably wouldn't have been carrying a weapon, much less firing one. He might have had a chance to hear some indirect fire...

You are, of course, correct, but Afghanistan is a muslim-majority country as well. he might have had the chance to help dozens of hundreds of Afghans.
Instead he chose to kill a dozen American soldiers instead of helping some fellow muslims.
