Well, you know doctors make the worst patients, right? So I am now finding myself in the patient position and I don't like it one little cotton-picking bit.
Here's the deal: I turned 40 in February and had my first baseline mammogram last week. Well, it showed something wierd, so yesterday I had to go get a "compression" mammogram. OMG!!!!!!! I'm still hurting from that thing. Following that, I had to have an ultrasound on the breast. The US showed that the abnormality was just a cyst, but it found something else "suspicious" that the original mammo didn't pick up.
Now I have to get a needle biopsy and see what the dealio is. I'm optimistic, as I don't have a family history of breast cancer (which is good for me), but it's still worrisome.
Please send up a prayer when you get a chance that all will be well and the biopsy will be clean as a bell.
Thanks!!

I'm convinced that all these tests aren't making us any healthier - only leading to more unnecessary tests and care. I heard a very similar story from a doctor friend of mine in regards to a colonoscopy.
Wow, Staci...You can't be getting an illness--you're too busy praying for me!
Seriously, I've already prayed for you. And, man oh man, am I hoping & praying that your needle biopsy is like my 2nd one of those, meaning, not a big deal at all in terms of discomfort. (let's just not discuss the 1st one...)
As to the procedure you've already had, this male can only imagine the discomfort. *shudders*
You & your'n will be in my prayers. Keep us posted, my friend.
All the best,
exiled, your fellow south MS'ian

My prayers for you and your health. Similar situation with my wife a few years ago............................turned out that too muck caffeine was the culprit.
Thanks to all. I saw the surgeon on Monday and he wants the lesion biopsied via ultrasound-guided needle this Friday. It will suck, but at least I'll get word within the next week. Knowing is better than not knowing any day of the week!
Thanks for the prayers. I can't tell you how much it means to me. Y'all rock!

I had a needle biopsy last month that was utterly no big deal in terms of discomfort. Here's hoping/praying yours is like that. (I had another one too, but let's not talk about that one...) Is "ultrasound-guided" the same as CT-guided? Mine were on the CT table with a zillion CT pix taken to guide the procedure.
Anyway, SD, you & your family have been mentioned much here in my prayers, and will continue to be so mentioned. Your hubby & girls too, as they have to walk this uncertain road with you. And you're absolutely right that knowing>>>>>not knowing any day.
Press on, amiga!

p.s. - I'm thinking one of these times when I'm teaching down on the coast, or just journeying down there, our respective tribes should grab a seafood meal together. More later.

So I had the biopsy done last Friday, the 16th. It was far less horrible than I thought it would be. Of course, having a bruise on my breast is a strange sight in the mirror. At any rate, I was a bit sore over the weekend, but now I'm right as rain.
Now the waiting........................................... .....
