Hello,
DC (& others)!
Sorry for the delay. a) just got busted out of the hospital yesterday around 6:00, and b) computer web access was iffy, and (c) more post-op pain this go-round. Thanks for asking!
We're in Friendswood @ the place we've stayed for each of our 8 trips (*sigh*) out here since beg. of May. Since I'm out of the driving loop for a while, mrs. exiled has to handle all of the driving chores. Thus, we're hanging here in SE Houston until tomorrow. Our (hopeful!) theory is that the storm will have largely cleared much of where we want to drive by then. We've also scouted an alternate route since several hundred thousand folks evacuated from S. LA to here, and they'll all be returning tomorrow.
Medically: I'm fine.
Surgeon said "mission accomplished" Friday late morning. This is an awesome thing! I do understand that, as Paul said, "it is far better for me to depart..." But mrs. exiled still enjoys my company, and--remarkably--my children do too!--plus I'm like the old blues gospel song--"everybody wanna go to heaven, but nobody wanna die..."
This go-round, there was
much more postop pain. Getting the chest tube pulled yesterday was zero fun, sir, but it did remarkably help the pain subside. More postop nausea this time too. (*Ron White delivery*)
There's some good news...On the plus side, we feel that we managed the post-anesthesia wierdness better this go-round. *knocks on wood* *says "Honey, somebody's knocking at the door..."*

It took a day to figure this out, but my side & back & upper harm hurt like hades in a severely pulled-muscle kind of way; turns out they had to really contort my arm way up & out of position & bend my upper body sideways in order to get good access to where the spot was in my upper lung.
But other than recovery from cancer surgery on my lung while dodging a hurricane that's aiming near my home town while my daughter is there staying w/ some friends, all's well here.

Seriously, we're fine and most humbled & grateful. God would be great & awesome regardless of whether I got to this point, but I'm grateful that we're at this point.
Oh, did I mention this?
For the first time this calendar year,
I AM CANCER-FREE!!!
So, I've got that going for me. Which is nice...
Thanks so much for your prayers, my e-amigos. Hopefully, mrs. exiled & I will be venturing to T-town for a game this Fall. At that point, I'll need to drop by everyone's tailgate parties to say hello in person. (Don't worry, she doesn't eat nor drink much...

p.s. - I did, indeed, enjoy the game Saturday night. I was briefly fearful that these barbarians would show some HS FB rerun or something (all the FB I found here on Sunday afternoon!). But it was all good. Regrettably, the anesthesia + the lack-of-sleep Thurs. & Fri. made me go to sleep during the 2nd half. Fortunately, the thrashing was secure by then.

Had a former student who is now @ Clemson put this on my facebook site: "Oh, Mr. M.,...it's gonna be total domination..." I've been wrestling with the mighty temptation to write back, "Wow! You were right! It
was total domination..." But she's a friend & a very nice girl. If she had a hink of jerk-ness about her though,...
