Church bus Tragedy near Meridian, MS

Share

Please pray for the victims and the families of a Church bus crash that happened Sunday (12 July) near Meridian.

The church bus was carrying at least 23 teenagers and adults when a tire blew out causing the bus to rollover near the visitor center on Interstate 20, two miles west of the Alabama state line.

The bus flipped three times before landing on its side and trapping some of the passengers underneath, Cobler said.

A busload of U.S. soldiers stopped and assisted with the injured. They provided emergency medical support and even turned the bus upright.

A number of parents are enroute to Meridian and Jackson by car and air. Support is being provided by a number of churches in Meridian.

Dr. Greg Hunt, senior pastor at First Baptist, expressed appreciation for everyone on location who has provided heroic support.

"Our congregation is leaning on our faith and confidence in God, balancing direct action with reliance on the goodness and power of God.''

The congregation got word of the accident shortly before morning worship and used the occasion to rally together in prayer and move into action. The bus left the church about 4:45 a.m.

The youth group was scheduled to attend a weeklong youth event near Atlanta called Passport.

Officals have confirmed one dead.

My son is a Doctor of Physical Therapy at Rush Hospital and is treating some of the victims here in Meridian. A few of the kids still have a long way to go before they are "out of the woods" so to speak.

Thanks everyone for your prayers.
