Off to Houston/M.D. Anderson again...

Share

In my continuing quest to be up close & personal w/ the health care debate , we're off to Houston Sun. 9/21 for followup scans & bloodwork on Mon. 9/22. Then the latest most-important-Dr.-appt.-of-my-life Tuesday around lunch time to get the restuls of the scans.

Y'all have been so thoughtful & gracious toward this Tidefan in the past; would you please pray for us these next few days?

Sunday - drive from H'burg to Houston (about 8 hours)
Monday - P.E.T. scan & bloodwork
Tuesday - *key* appt. w/ Dr. to get scan results
Wed. - appt. w/ my thoracic surgeon
**I hope the Wed. surgery appt. becomes moot after the medical guy Tuesday says something like "nothing to see here; go home; see you in 6 months..."

The P.E.T. scan itself is no big deal, except for the IV (by my calculations, I was stuck nearly 300 times in 2008, so I can deal w/ an IV...but as B.B. King sings, the thrill is gone...). The worst part of Monday is...*sigh*...no coffee & no food until after the scans. I'm accustomed to both coffee and food within about 30 min. of opening my eyes. Just know that sometime around 1:30 or 2, I'll be leaning on the coffee bar in the lobby of MDA saying "another refill, please" while totally enjoying the stale donuts & stale cinnamon rolls...

Seriously, the biggest challenge this trip is the looooooong wait between the scan ending Monday and the Dr. appt. Tuesday. Time absolutely C R A W L S that afternoon/evening/morning...

This is a "routine" followup visit w/ my last one having been *great* 4 months ago. But such visits will never be routine again here @ casa exiled. Metastatic melanoma is such an insidious disease...Use suncreen, boys & girls! Wish I had...

Thanks much for the prayers, my Crimson Tide e-friends!

In His Grip,
exiled/Mike

Good luck exiled, I hope it's good news. Cancer took my father, his brother, my mother's sister and her father, it's a nasty disease.

Update tuesday, 9/22

Good report today! 1 spot still there, but largely unchanging. My Dr.'s not worried, nor is the radiologist who read the P.E.T. scan. Sooo, we skipped tomorrow's appt. w/ the surgeon since it's now moot & came on home!

Thanks SO much for your prayers, my Crimson amigos. We pray to a God Who still does miracles now & then. Exhibit A: me! I was told today that I'm referred to by the Dr. as his "miracle patient"... It seems that not everyone goes from stage IV metastatic melanoma to training for a 5K in 15 months...*huge grin*

Thanks again!

Exiled, I work in a Cancer Center and I will confirm what you said. Surviving MM IV is rare and indeed falls into the miraculous realm. But He who spoke the universe into existence certainly has no trouble dismissing it from our body. Rejoice brother. As you know, He is able.
