Here goes (*denotes league leader):

FIRST TEAM

Catcher: Landon Powell, South Carolina
.356/.435/.694
19 HR*/62 RBI
He finally lived up to all of the hype.

First Base: Josh Morris, Georgia
.440/.668
16 HR/67 RBI*
Young slugger helped carry the Bulldogs to a surprising share of the SEC Championship. The scariest part is that he is only a freshman.

Second Base: Warner Jones, Vanderbilt
.425*/.462/.695*
10 HR/64 RBI
96 H*/25 2B*
No contest here. As for the 2nd team, Rice is the better player, in my opinion, but the deciding factor was that Graeter started every game at second and Rice spent a lot of time over at third and as a DH.

Third Base: Clay Goodwin, Arkansas
.337/.428
4 HR/26 RBI
A key component of Arkansas’ equally surprising championship run, Goodwin was a consistent source of production in the heart of the Razorback order in addition to providing steady defense at the hot corner.

Shortstop: Ryan Klosterman, Vanderbilt
.350/.423/.545
6 HR/30 RBI
61 R
7 3B*
Being one of the best leadoff hitters and the top defensive shortstop in the conference gives Klosterman the edge over Georgia’s Justin Holmes and Arkansas’ Scott Hode.

Outfield: J.C. Holt, LSU
.402/.472*
94 H/64 R*
One of the best all-around players in the SEC, Holt is a pure hitter with great speed and defensive versatility. Served as the “sparkplug” at the top of the LSU order.

Outfield: Jon Zeringue, LSU
.404/.460/.661
51 RBI
He hit .400 and put up some of the best power numbers in the conference.

Outfield: Ben Harrison, Florida
.360/.471/.645
16 HR/58 RBI/60 R
Though fellow Gator slugger C.J. Smith put up nearly identical numbers in the major statistical categories, I believe that Harrison is the superior player, both offensively and defensively. I am willing to bet that nine out of ten opposing pitchers would rather face Smith than Harrison any day.

DH: Brad Corley, Mississippi State
.378/.436/.678
18 HR/52 RBI
Great season at the plate warrants inclusion on any first team list, but Corley is my DH because the other outfielders are far superior defensive ballplayers.

UT: Stephen Head, Ole Miss
.357/.430/.582
11 HR/49 RBI
6-1/2.43 ERA/5 SV
One of the most talented players in the country, this “UT” designation seems to have emerged so as to specifically accommodate him.

SP: Wade LeBlanc, Alabama
8-4/2.08 ERA
98 SO/112.2 IP
The best freshman pitcher in the nation.

SP: Justin Hoyman, Florida
10-1*/2.76 ERA
81 SO/117.1 IP
A great season; just wish he had faced opposing aces more often

SP: Mark Holliman, Ole Miss
9-2/2.67 ERA
90 SO/97.2 IP
Emerged as the ace of the Rebs’ staff and helped carry them throughout the season

RP: Chad Blackwell, South Carolina
3-3/3.09 ERA/12 SV*
60 SO/46.2 IP
Well, he led the league in saves.

SP/RP: Taylor Tankersley, Alabama
2-5/2.00 ERA*/4 SV
70 SO/67.2 IP
The record doesn’t provide an accurate assessment of how tough the league’s ERA leader was this season.
