"I would like to talk, representing all those veterans, and say that several months ago in Detroit, (meeting funded by Jane Fonda) we had an investigation at which over 150 honorably discharged and many highly decorated veterans testified to war crimes committed in Southeat Asia, NOT ISOLATED incidents but crimes SYSTEMATICALLY committed on a DAY TO DAY basis with the full awareness of officers at all levels of command.
They told the stories at times they had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscentof Ghengis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisioned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam in addition to the normal ravage of war, and the normal and very particular ravaging which is done by the applied bombing power of this country."
Let's look at a few select words. "not isolated", "systematically" and "day-to-day". These words do not suggest that it happenned on sporadically but that it happenned consistantly and was widespread by most of our Vietnam Veterans. I want to know from the ones who served in Vietnam, have loved ones that served or have lost a loved one in Vietnam, does his words upset you? I was fotunate not to have anyone lost in Vietnam but did have two uncles that served in the Marines there. If the atrocities that Kerry speaks of were so widespread and "systematic" then that would leave me to believe that my uncles either took part in it or stood by and let it happen. I am sorry if I find it offensive to me but I do.
What are your thoughts?

My father served three tours, my 1st cousin served two tours. They never saw any of these things.

John Kerry served in-country for 4 months and received 3 purple hearts and a silver star. I'm retired ** and Desert Storm verteran and I don't find Kerry credible at all.

Kerry's platform seems to be these two things:
1. I'm not George Bush.
2. Vietnam was bad.

Wonder what Hitlery could bring to that.
1. I hate men.
2. Bush is bad.
3. Old people need free drugs.
4. Blacks need something for free, too.
5. Young people need to be stupid and to like socialism.

With this outlook, the Dems could actually win the election this time.

With what happened in Spain/elections, I'd look for an all-out assault on the military from Kerry. He'll be talking about the soldiers in Iraq next.

One of my best friends from H.S. did 2 tours of duty in Nam. According to him, he was part of several missions behing ememy lines. They would get dropped in at night, gather intelligence and do as much damage as possible and leave. On his second mission, after they had accomplished what they set out to do, his lieutenant handed him an M-16 and told him to kill several families of villagers that had been rounded up. He refused and walked away. 50 yards down the road he heard gunfire and screaming. So, yes, it went on. Wartime brings out the worst and sometime the best in people. But the worst went on a lot more from all I've heard from people who've been there.

It was that very man, General William tecumseh Sherman, who said "War is Hell."

What that means, dear readers, is that war is, literally, hell.

Bad things happen when you put people, the majority of them very young and very unsophisticated, in extreme danger, and give them guns.

I think it has been shown that much of that congressional testimony was exaggerated or simply falsified. I think that Kerry was an enthusiast, much like Jane Fonda, who was used by others because of his fame, and his medals. He was young, too.

But I know a fairly good number of people who were over there, and I know, specifically, some things that happened that you wouldn't want to tell your kids about. People simply don't talk about them; and I don't blame them.

Like I said, if you put people in legitimate fear of their lives, and you give them powerful weapons and permission (not permission: orders) to use them, bad things are going to happen. The weak and defenseless are going to suffer.

War is hell. It should be avoided, if at all possible. Governments and people should do ALL THEY CAN to avoid them.

But when they happen, you can't blame the guys with the rifles and the dirty boots.

The debate isn't whether it ever happened but if it was widespread and systematic as John "f the troops" Kerry proclaimed. I guess Spot that you believe that Pachy and others on this board witnessed these actions since you agree with Kerry. What a slimeball.
Bob, so you are telling me that Kerry is so stupid that he was used? Boy, that gives me confidence in his leadership.

A lot of people do stupid things when they are young. Especially if they are very idealistic.

He had enough leadership qualities to get elected US Senator.

You guys sound desperate.
