Fried Corn on the Cob

Description:
Batter fried corn on the cob is good eats. Probably started as carnival food it is now moving into kitchens.
Other: Ingredients:
Time:
15 min
Difficulty:
Easy
Serving Size:
8-10
  1. small frozen ears of corn on cob 8-10
  2. thick bamboo skewers
  3. 2 eggs
  4. 1/2 cup buttermilk
  5. 1/2 cup cornmeal
  6. 1/2 cup flour
  7. garlic powder
  8. onion powder
  9. cayenne pepper
  10. black pepper
  11. salt
Preparation:
  1. thaw corn
  2. soak skewers in water for 1 hour
  3. heat oil to 375F
Instructions:
  1. pound one skewer into the end of each ear of corn
  2. mix eggs, buttermilk and cornmeal together
  3. mix all other ingredients together
  4. dip ears into the wet cornmeal batter then roll in seasoned flour
  5. fry ears in hot oil completely submerged till golden brown about 3 minutes each
  6. do not crowd the pot drain on paper when done

Helpful hint: Sanitize a drill bit, just slightly smaller than the skewer you will use, then secure it in a household cordless drill. Drill a pilot hole into the cob, then insert the skewer into the cob. It will go in a lot easier, and removal won't be as difficult.
Oh..and, don't forget to wash and dry the drill bit when you're done. Store the bit with your skewers so it will be ready for the next time.

Good tip. My wife will think I'm insane seeing me in the kitchen with a cordless drill and a platter full of corn on the cob but..................

I first saw that on one of Bobby Flay's "Throwdown" episodes, and that was my first impression. But if Iron Chef Bobby Flay doesn't have any qualms about drilling a corn cob, why should I?
