Description:
I first became acquainted with this spice when I bought a jar from a spice dealer selling it as Japanese 7 Spice and it was called a table condiment. This recipe comes close to what was in the jar. The flavor is hot and spicy with a hint of the allspice and orange. We used it mostly on meat dishes and on oriental noodle dishes. I wouldn't be afraid to use it as a table condiment in place of pepper. Try it and you might like it.
Other: Ingredients:
Time:
5 min
Difficulty:
easy
Serving Size:
about 1/4 cup
  1. 3-4 tablespoons crushed togarashi chile peppers or any other Hot chile pepper
  2. 1 tbsp dried orange peel
  3. 2 tbsp white sesame seeds
  4. 2 tbsp black sesame seeds
  5. 1 tsp Sichuan pepper
  6. 1 tsp shredded nori (dried seaweed found in asian market)
  7. 1/2 tsp dry ground ginger
Preparation:
  1. If using a coffee grinder run 2 tbsp rice to clean up the machine. I don't know why this works but it just does.
Instructions:
  1. Place all the ingredients in a spice mill or coffee grinder and process to a coarse powder.
  2. Store in airtight container up to 4 months
