Not sure about the rule but that does seem kinda shady to do. I am pretty sure people cannot get a jersey monogrammed with a current players name. After they graduate, like Barker, it is fine. That does sound like Auburn recruiting. Ears and the Barns are at it again. Wouldn't it be great to see the Barn, UThug and UF go on probation at the same time? It might be bad for the SEC, but any recruit that wanted to go to a big time SEC team would go to Bama, UGA, or LSU. It would be wonderful for the years to come. I'm $ure nothing happen$ when boo$ter$ $hake hand$ with recruit$.

I know that that rule was approved by the NCAA and went live but was it suspended or repealed? Do I smell a recruiting violation?
I can't remember what thread it was on, but I remember on one thread someone said that on a Georgia board, they were talking about the UGA coach, Mark Richt, had sent a letter to the NCAA about recruiting violations at the Barn. Hate to change the subject of the thread, but can anyone shed some light on this topic?

That may be one of those GREY areas....I know they can't allow the players to wear jersey's with their names on them when they go to the stadium and they are not allowed to say their names live over the P.A. but this may be a grey area.
Interesting nonetheless.

Here is an article on scout which mentions that they can't have a jersey with the recruit's name on it hanging it the locker room (i.e., there is no gray area):
Oh hell ya...it's a violation. From the NCAA bylaws:
13.6.6.9 Activities
An institution may not arrange miscellaneous, personalized recruiting aids (e.g., personalized jerseys, personalized audio/video scoreboard presentations) and may not permit a prospect to engage in any game-day simulations (e.g., running onto the field with the team during pre-game introductions) during an official visit. Personalized recruiting aids include any decorative items and special additions to any location the prospect will visit (e.g., hotel room, locker room, coach's office, conference room, arena) regardless of whether or not the items include the prospect's name or picture. (Revised: 5/14/05)

one of the things that is done when we host recruits is when they are in BDS, their name and picture are on the jumbotron and they "announce" them when they come out of the tunnel...how does that fit in there? or is that rule pertaining to, say, having that at a real game?

Anything like that would likely go through the SEC office first and Slive would try to handle "in-house".
Where FSU goes about Auburn is another story though.

I haven't heard of us doing that. I think it was when McElroy committed, he had visited that weekend and he said he knew he was where he wanted to be when they went to BDS on Saturday night and were standing on the field and they played the pre game video. I don't think we announce their names while they come on the field. If someone did that during a game, that would be a violation, but if it was when they were visiting the stadium, I don't think that would be a violation. Although, I am pretty sure we don't do that. If we do, I would like to read somewhere from a good source.

no, they do that. Ive known a few recruits who said they did it, and seen a picture of it. Mr. Oakley in Reese Phifer had a picture of the Jumbotron when Will (his grandson) was on a recruiting trip. He was on the screen
