"Davis, who is an LSU commitment, took what he thought was a clandestine trip to Tuscaloosa, Ala., over the weekend to visit new Alabama coach Nick Saban, who dropped in on Davis last week in West Monroe."
"He has been admitting to people that he did go to Alabama for a visit and apologizing that he lied," said recruiting expert Mike Scarborough of the Rivals.com recruiting network.
I can already tell you what the LSU fans will say: "He lied to us just like Saban lied to Miami! He fits right in over there. Good riddens!"

What that "confirmation" does tell me is that somebody "lied" when they reported all that negative stuff Davis said about Saban. Why would the kid say all of that then go visit? Anybody else see something wrong with that one?

There was also a "well-known" poster on the LSU rivals site saying he was working out with LD the day of the visit, therefore he wasn't really in Alabama. ROFL
1958 " at one of Bryant's early, preseason press conferences, a reporter said, 'Coach, the Alumni are expecting your team to go undefeated next season. Coach growled back, 'The hell you say! I'm alumnus, and I don't expect us to go undefeated."
This has got to be one of the funniest capers of the recruiting season. Saban fired a broadside across Les Miles' bow. The LSU staff are probably uncertain who will be the next "defector to Tuscaloosa."

That's exactly right. I can tell you they're saying just that, at least most of them. Others don't like Miles policy of not allowing "commits" to visit other schools. I for one don't even like the term "commit", because we're talking about 18 year old kids here who have people waiting on them hand and foot. I wish all of them would do like Joe McKnight, Chad Jones, etc..., and keep it to themselves until signing day.
That being said, Luther did say what was reported, and then as word leaked out that he might be in Tuscaloosa, he was texted by friends, and he told them he was at his uncle's funeral in LA. Again he lied. It was a good one, though. He did have an uncle who had a funeral Saturday! Again I submit that we're dealing with 18 yo kids, and they have way too much pressure. LD didn't want to admit it because he knew he would catch grief from his friends in LA.

YES it sounds like afew people are trying tell a few lies to make us look bad!

I have a serious hard time believing this kid said those exact things then went and met with Saban. From Davis' standpoint I'd be more concerned about Saban's reaction once I got there than getting any "grief" from his friends. Did you read what was quoted? I wouldn't have shown my face within ten miles of Saban if I'd said that much less drive to meet with him.
I'm not saying the kid didn't say anything at all but it sure seems awfully "odd" that he would say things to that degree and then meet with Saban. But people will believe what they need to in order to support their opinions.

Allow me to add one more thing. Miles policy isn't that if a kid commits, then takes another visit, he's off our list. It just means we pull away the offer, which is fair. If a kid is still looking, Miles doesn't consider him "committed", so he pulls the offer and continues recruiting others for that schollie. If the kid, in this case LD, still wants to go to LSU, then he can choose to do so on signing day, assuming the schollie is still available.(Hasn't been given to someone else in the meantime)

I wouldn't count any defections until 2-7-07. Nobody has defected yet.

This has been the story of Luther Davis recruitment. Supposedly he has told everyone what they want to hear, making everyone believe that he would go to them. He did this to Louisville, Oklahoma, FSU and now LSU and Bama. Who knows where he will go, but any person who has followed his recruiting will know what kind of whirlwind it has been.
Heard LD actually spent the weekend inside the Texas Book Depository . Also , McKnight has made 17 secret trips to TitleTown .

So Davis knew that the reporter interviewing him "wanted to hear" something "bad" about Saban so he said it?
