Question What was Alabama's recruiting class ranked last year and previous years?

Share

How does the 2007 recruiting class compare to the last few recruiting classes under Coach Shula? Where did our past few classes rank? Just wondering.

Here's an "Average Stars" (Rivals) comparison of all the SEC schools for the last 4 recruiting classes:

Shula's recruiting was improving every year as we pulled out of the sanctions. His problem was not evaluating recruits, coaching (x's and o's) or getting the players in a position to win games (he did that with a young team and no depth). His problem was thinking that playing for the U of A and wearing the Crimson jersey was motivation enough to get ready to play. He was used to coaching mature, self motivated players.
He is not stupid and could learn from his mistakes. I still believe we would be competing for the SECC this year and the NC next year, even without a change in HC.

I agree, but I think that with Saban; if Alabama isn't playing for the National Title they will probably be playing in the Sugar Bowl.

(That is the difference between Saban and Shula)

Re: What was Alabama's recruiting class ranked last year?

I think Shula was a decent recruiter, but what were we ranked in recruiting this year while he was our coach and what are we ranked now?? I think its something like 27 then and 10th now. I know some have us higher up and some have us lower but i'm going by rivals.

Re: What was Alabama's recruiting class ranked last year?

IMHO the team rankings are less important than average stars, but here's Bama's recruiting rankings (Rivals) for those years:

2004 = 15th
2005 = 18th
2006 = 11th
2007 = 10th

2002 (30th) and 2003 (49th) were the years the NCAA cuts hit recruiting the hardest. The quality in those years wasn't so bad, but reduced quantity killed us in the team rankings.

Re: What was Alabama's recruiting class ranked last year?

Last years OL class ranked 1st or 2nd and this years DL ranked 1st. So, hopefully if new staff can coach them up, we should start to be dominant at the line of scrimmage.

2002 Alabama Signing Class
Rivals rank 30
Scout rank 37

Some of that 30th ranked 2002 class was last season's 5th year seniors. The significant contributors from the class are underlined. I am proud of those that stuck with Alabama and gave it their all through some very tough times. DeMeco turned out to be one of the best LBs to play at Alabama. The signees listed in bold either did not qualify, transferred, or did not significantly contribute. In a class that small to have 7 signees that did not significant contribute was devastating. Thanks Coach Fran.

Remember that last year's class included 5* Mike Ford who never made it here, so the ranking is inflated...

Well that sort of thing happens at just about every school.
