The University of Alabama has self-reported three secondary violations committed by its football program since Oct. 16, 2006, according to documents obtained by The Birmingham News.
Two of the violations occurred after Nick Saban was announced as the Crimson Tide's coach on Jan. 4, though one of those happened "unbeknownst to (Saban and his) staff," documents say. Two of the violations involved a representative of athletics interest (booster) having an impermissible contact with a recruit.

Considering what USC appears to have recently gotten away with, this probably will mean the death penalty for Alabama...
No kidding. However, these things take some time for investigation and fact-finding. We weren't put on probation until at least 3 years after Dubose was gone. I hope that something happens to USC for what appears to be blatant violations.
On Dec. 6, 2006, UA reported a booster had an impermissible contact with a prospective student-athlete during a game in a skybox area. Mike Shula was still Alabama’s coach at the time.
On Jan. 26, 2007, a UA graduate assistant provided round-trip transportation for a recruit’s mother and family friend for a recruit’s official visit to campus.
On Feb. 7, 2007, a booster had an in-person contact with a prospect at his high school.
Alabama, the newspaper reported, has not sent its report to the SEC regarding allegations that Saban had improper contacts with three Miami-based prospects.

Re: Crimson Tide self-reports three football secondary violations
I am usually silent on this board, but this makes me panic. Can anyone tell me what this "could" mean for the program.
1) Aside from how this WILL hash out with prospects, will it result in lost schollys?
2) Given past issues arent we under the micoscope to begin with?
3) Finally, was this alreadyknown prior to coaches coming, speculation im sure, but how does this effect the future of their coaching at AU? Will they want to stay facing these issues?
I am a AU fan from birth, but these issues grow tiresome. I would like my sons to see AU win a few before I die. One step forward three steps back it seems. Do we just no longer want to do well? Im sick! More cannon fodder for the rest of the NCAA. Im driving to see the AU FSU game from Virginia. My expectations are very high, but for how long?
Re: Crimson Tide self-reports three football secondary violations
Every university reports minor violations every single year. This just happens to be in the news because you have some reporters in Birmingham looking to stir things up a little bit. Actually, if a school fails to report any violations they look more suspicious to the NCAA.
Here, South Carolina reported some of their secondary violations a few weeks ago. http://www.charleston.net/news/2007/...ry_violations/
typically, this is nothing to worry about as long as a pattern doesn't develop. Now, that being said we're under a microscope right now and the athletic department should take extra care to insure no other minor violations occur.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

VT22... If you are truely an Alabama fan this is meant to be a light spirited jab at your misstyped post. If you are an opponent or Aub fan then this is meant to be even funnier for the Tide Fans.
Now you see why he is usually silent on "this" board. Here are my 3 suspected reasons for what "could" be the problem with this misspost:
1) As he said this post really does make him "panic" and he is not thinking or writing straight.
2) As he said in his post he is "sick," I mean really sick, feverishly sick.
3) As he said he has ""grow tiresome"," and he is subconsciously tired of being a silent Auburn fan in disguise on an Alabama board. The multiple "AU" references were Freudian slips meant to "hash out" his true feelings.

Well, I fell better concerning all the secondary violations. The "sick" feeling came from the prospect of more sanctions. I guess everyone forgot the past and how big of a hit the program took. I guess the theory of blinders for mules kicked in. I see a 360 degree radius in my life. I look forward as well as behind. My father went to Alabama and there is only one AU and it dang sure isn't orange and blue. I have lived through the best of times and worst. I just felt the worst was in the past. Being a coach myself I cannot say that these "minor" infractions would be a nice surprise in my current new coaching position. I do however feel compelled to let you all know that the refrences to being a fan of another school is not a welcome comment. I bleed crimson and love the University of Alabama. I feel this is by far the best board with the best web community surrounding ANY college football. Being a coach in Virginia I recieve free football tickets to VT and UVA. I am treated well by the respective Universities and college football fans, but never hesitate to express my love for Alabama. I thank you all for the input and can sleep better knowing that the violations are secondary. I am not familiar with how these infractions may or may not effect the program, but it is disheartining to hear this news. Its like my Daddy used to say "Whos minding the sheep?" Its never the sheeps fault for running astray its the individual or individuals watching them. I'll crawl back in my hole and become silent once more.
Re: Crimson Tide self-reports three football secondary violations
Hopefully this will clear it up for you.
AU= Auburn University
UA= University of Alabama

I'm very afraid too. With the accusations concerning Hoover High School, and now this...I've got a feeling that the NCAA is about to drop the BIG BOMB!
Re: Crimson Tide self-reports three football secondary violations
Lord have mercy....y'all sure are some worry-worts.
This means absolutely nothing. This happens ALL OF THE TIME by ALL INSTITUTIONS. You turn yourself in for these minor deals so that no one can make a big deal about them or to show you are removing yourself from some fool boosters or fired GAs.
Clemson recently turned in 7 violations.
UF last year had a recruit that was on the radio braggin about all the random people who were giving him shirts and caps and stuff on the street. Did anything happen to them? No. I don't think they even self-reported it.

No one is saying you need to be silent. We are just concerned that you think AU is the same as UA. That is all...
We welcome your concern and your posts. Sorry if I offended you in any way. Feel free to post away, we will welcome the discourse.
