It’s true that Alabama was proclaimed the national recruiting champion of 2008 by many of the services that issue such proclamations. Auburn, in most of those contests, was recognized like the kid who got “honorable mention” in the school science fair. There was a sense of “well, at least you tried…”
Recruiting, of course, is more complex than that. Tuberville has tried to explain that he’s concerned with more than just the “star ratings” of the prospects, an explanation he repeated in a lengthy interview session at the SEC Meetings in Destin, Fla., on Wednesday.
In some ways, Tuberville made identical points to ones that Saban has made, particularly when it comes to his disdain for NCAA limitations on evaluation time.

I feel sorry for Tuberville! He is recruiting on an uneven playing field. Not only does he have to recruit against Coach Saban, Coach Thompson, and Coach Steele, Teletubby has to recruit sociology majors. Also, due to high gas prices, the rev's offering plate has been a little light lately.
Re: Tuberville recruits for more than just ‘star ratings’
Tubs is saying that it's essentially bad for schools to recruit nationally? As a coach, you take a risk on ANY football player that you bring into your school. You could have the upstanding character kid that acts that way when his parents are around, but put him on a college environment, he may start to act differently.
He assuming that CNS and other coaches depend on the recruiting services for their recruiting because of the ex-UCLA coach said that's what he personally did. Just like any other coach, I have no doubt that CNS and his staff have picked out the players that they want to get for their program and they're not inviting Rivals, ESPN, Scout, etc. to help them with finding these players.

Then why was he the one leading the pack in complaining to the ncaa about instituting the "Saban Rule"? is full of it. He's the biggest whiner in the SEC.......or the country for that matter.

Out one side of his mouth Tubbs is saying the coaches don't have enough time to evaluate a kid. Out the other he says the coaches know more about the kids than the recruiting services, whom I don't believe are under any contact restrictions. Which is it?
Re: Tuberville recruits for more than just ‘star ratings’
Tubbs better get used to settling for CNS's scraps because that's all he's going to be getting now-a-days!

That's not a problem for ears.........he's two-faced, so all he has to do is speak out the other side of his face.........& that's not even counting when he speaks out his you-know-what!

Re: Tuberville recruits for more than just ‘star ratings’
It's not that I neccesarily disagree with Tuberville, the problem is what he is implying. He is obviously suggesting that a certain coach in West Alabama is not recruiting for character and work-ethic and just opens his browser to rivals.com's top100 list then opens the phonebook. Also, his statement about national recruiting really is another reason why Auburn will have trouble getting title winning talent. I think you have selectively look for good-fits for your program and go after difference makers that everyone covets. Alabama has great talent and many hidden gems each year, but any coach refusing to commit to a measure of national recruiting will have a team that is going to be handicapped. You may not be able to find SEC quality athletes to fill your needs within 200 miles of your campus...you have to go get them sometimes or somebody else will.
Re: Tuberville recruits for more than just ‘star ratings’
CTT failed to mention that he recruited many of the same players as CNS, but did not get ANY of those players. If he didn't think they were "character guys", then why bother recruiting them in the 1st place?

BINGO!!! It's not like Tubbs was recruiting an entirely different set of recruits than everyone else in the nation. He was after a lot of the same recruits we were. The problem is he didn't get many of them. End of story.
