In an article today by the Birmingham News that focused mainly on the status of Tide signee Devonta Bolton, the following nugget was included:

The other player is former Hoover defensive lineman Kerry Murphy, who is waiting word on academic eligibility after transferring from a prep school.
That is pretty big news as far as I can tell. The plan, prior to this, was that Murphy was going to spend the Fall semester at Hargrave and then attempt to enroll at Alabama in January of 2009. Obviously, though, that has changed. It does not, however, say where he transferred to. I suppose the likely scenario is that he is now at a junior college, but perhaps he is at Alabama trying to get cleared.
Either way, Murphy is no longer at Hargrave. Hopefully someone has another update on this kid.
It seems like Murphy has been trying to qualify for five years now.
Oh well, I hope he makes it. He's got a lot of talent.

I just can't see him making it to Tuscaloosa before the spring. I would love to have him on the DL, but it just looks so slim at this point. I wish him all the best though.

Coach Bryant, after announcing his retirement, was asked if he was dissappointed that an Alabama player had never won the Heisman Trophy while he was the coach. He said, "No!", and added, "At Alabama our players do not win Heisman Trophies, our teams win national championships."
Kerry Murphy reminds me of David Payne, a DuBose recruit.
I certainly hope Kerry Murphy does not turn out to remind you or anyone else of David Paine. Paine was directly involved in the darkest days of Alabama recruiting.

I made that statement because Paine was a highly rated prospect who never qualified, the way the Murphy situation is lingering chances are he won't qualify either.
I don't think anything improper took place during Murphy's recruitment. I have no comment on whether anything improper took place during Paine's recruitment.

Sure seems like Murphy will be joining their list unfortunately.

Does anyone have the final word on Kerry? Seems like last I heard he was in school but not on the team - is that the case? Or did he go someplace else?
Just curious since it seems the media got initial copies of the fall roster today if Murphy was listed.

I'm not sure where he is at. He is no longer at Hargrave, and he has apparently transferred somewhere.
That said, though, I figure he has just been accepted at a junior college or something along those lines. I have not seen one piece of evidence indicating that he has enrolled at Alabama or any other major university, and surely as high-profile as his case has been any news on that front would have been well-publicized.
At this point, I don't think anyone knows where Murphy is going -- and he might not himself -- but I do believe just about everyone would be shocked if he was eligible at Alabama this Fall. Unfortunately there's just no information out there on him right now.

The earliest Kerry could make it to Bama would be December. What that means, I'm not exactly sure....he's trying to make up academics somewhere for that bit of info to have been passed along.
