OL/DL recruit breakdown?

Share

I heard Scott Kennedy's (Scout.com) interview today on Dunnaway & Brown today. He mentioned the possibility of Orr, Steen and Woodson moving up because he did not agree that they were 3 star talent, which I whole heartedly agreed with.

Onto my question: Kennedy said he feels like Fluker will move to OG and Dial will be on the offensive line as well. Assuming that we sign Brandon Moore as well, can someone speculate on where we will likely see these guys playing at Bama?

First and foremost, Kennedy uses Scout.com logic with Fluker. He thinks he'll end up at offensive guard, while his recruiting service is evaluating him at defensive tackle. In reality, if Fluker goes to the offensive line, we're looking at him as a tackle. His wingspan and footwork make him an ideal left tackle prospect, and that should be where he gets a look.

Brandon Moore is a versatile guy who could play either on the offensive line or the defensive line. He's likely to play nose guard for us when he commits. Quinton Dial will also play inside at nose guard as well.

William Ming and Anthony Orr will be at defensive end. Scout.com has Orr as a defensive tackle prospect, but he'll play end at Alabama. Whether or not they play the combo end / tackle position or the pure end position will be determined at a later date. At this point I would think Ming would play the combo end / tackle position, while Orr would get the natural end position, but that is subject to change.

With the other four offensive linemen, it's a bit hard to say. Chance Warmack is going to play guard, that we know for sure, and Steen should as well. We're apparently going to give Kellen Williams and Darius McKellar chances at tackle, and I guess we'll just have to see if they have the athleticism to keep up with it. Williams really impressed in Atlanta at the combine, but McKellar has been on the shelf with an injury and I'm not really sure anyone knows what to expect out of him.

Re: OL/DL recruit breakdown?

Fluker won't be playing guard, I'd almost bet money on that. He has huge potential at tackle IMO. Between Dial and Moore I'd say Moore would have the better chance at playing on the OL but I expect both to start out on the DL. I believe Warmack is a potential road grader at guard and I believe Williams and Steen could play tackle or guard. Steen could probably play just about any position along the line with his athleticism. McKeller will likely wind up at tackle. It's a nice dilemma to have, several players with the athletic ability to play multiple positions along arguably the most important part of any team.

I agree. It is certainly a good problem to have and I'm sure Pendry is licking his chops.
