Yes he is a very good LB and he has had a Bama offer for a good while now. I think he is a Prince Hall type LB. I just don't see how Bama will have room for him. The staff knows better than I do though.

Why is Petey Smith only a 3 star on Rivals ? I feel as if Rivals usually has the best sense of each prospect from the few years that I have followed recruiting religously. I see that he has offers from all over the country and that he rates highly on Scout.com and ESPN. Does he have a good potential or something. Any knowledge would be appreciated.
Simply put, Smith is a dominate inside run stopper at the high school level. He possesses superior size and strength than most of his opposition and steps down fast when filling his inside rush lane. Very explosive at the point of attack: fills with a wide base and knocks blockers upright with great force. The pile consistently goes backwards when this kid is in on the play. Excels at blowing up the fullback iso and other two-back power-running schemes. Shows a good short-area burst for his size shooting the backside gap and making plays on or behind the line of scrimmage. Can lumber a bit when chasing sideline-to-sideline but flashes good chase speed, range and a relentless motor often masking a marginal 40 time on paper. Our main issue when projecting for the next level is fluidity. Shows some deceptive athleticism in space but we have yet to see him slip the cutoff block and sift laterally through the fast moving traffic. Needs to work on shedding and keeping blockers off his body. Stiffness and marginal change-of-direction quickness could be exposed against spread offenses in space. We would like to see him become more consistent in his depth as a pass dropper in zone coverage; could struggle if matched up in man-to-man as well. Bottom line, Smith is a great prospect for a team struggling to stop the run. He plays fast and physical on every snap and is ready to make the jump to the next level. If he can add a bit of finesses and flexibility to his game; production should be huge as a college middle linebacker.

I'm a little wary of this. Would be great if it's actually true.

I like the look of this man. His physical being looks to be what Saban would love to have in his 3-4. I'm all for him. Remember he is a 4 star with missing 2/3rds of his junior year. How hard is that! I think if Saban wants him I really want him.
I've seen Petey play this year. He's as good as any on our list. He's on one of the best HS teams in the state (state champs and they dominate) and plays for a great HS d coach. Petey could play as a freshman anywhere in the SEC.

A step slower than you would like in his junior-year film, but man he packs a punch when he fills the hole. He has re-gained some speed and quickness this year (according to Smith himself). He reminds me a lot of Derrick Oden. I'm sure the staff is high on him.

Beyond that versatile line roams Under Armour All-American linebacker Petey Smith. Aided by his teammates in the trenches, Smith proved to everyone that he is recovered from an injury-plagued junior season. His performance on Friday night vaulted him into the ESPNU 150.
Murray, a Georgia recruit, dropped his third straight start against Armwood. A well-schooled frontline that deploys multiple looks -- the Hawks used 3-4 and 4-3 formations -- and a bevy of stunts, twists, blitzes and zone passing coverage had Murray's head spinning, sending him into an uncharacteristically frenetic pace.
