Re: DT Kerry Murphy Update (1/06): He has enrolled at Alabama
The coaching staff had the same fears about cody. Maybe these two will push each other and become the physical specimens we all want/need them to be. The d line is going to be special in the next few years, can't wait.

Rarely do you redshirt a guy who's had such academic difficulty, but then again, physically, he might need one. Good thing he's got the Spring.
Also, I know he played on the OL at Hargrave, and that is where our depth is most lacking, but I think Coach Prunty (Hargrave) has said before that Murphy is best on defense. He also said that Murphy would play on Sundays.
Cody, Murphy, and Chapman will make one deadly middle on our defensive front.

Why would Murphy be out of shape?
Hasn't he been at Hargrave for the last two years?
No, Murphy left Hargrave last May after one year. He has been taking college prep correspondence courses at home in Hoover since then.
There are a lot of reports out there that Murphy was going to or has enrolled at UA today, 1/06 but no published articles on the situation. I believe Murphy will be back counted to the 2008 class along with RB Jermaine Preyear who was a 2008 signee. Preyear was a gray shirt due to a shoulder injury last year.
There are two other 2009 commits that are reporting in early to UA. They are JUCO OT/OG James Carpenter (signed an LOI and already reported to the team) and OG Chance Warmack who is graduating early from HS and enrolling at UA this week. I am not exactly sure which of the four will be back counted to the two available scholarship slots from 2008 or which two will report in early and count toward the 2009 scholarships.

CS... I'd expect Carpenter to be the other back counter. If Murphy was the one counted and ended up being disqualified, it would hurt us with regard to the 25 limit this fall because you couldn't go back and get that 25th for 2008. If that makes sense.

You may be right about that and that is some good thinking in case Murphy were to enroll and then become academically unqualified later on this year. Again, I have no idea how the exact details will be worked out in the end.

We're going to have some serious depth, and beef on the d-line if everything works out for this kid!
