Anyway you want to slice it no matter who we end up getting at the position they're going to be top notch. I don't think we can go wrong with any of WRs we've offered so far. JOMO.
Norwood made an un-official visit to the Kentucky game and loved it so much he's planning to visit with his Mom for Ole Miss so she can "see the experience first hand".
I wouldn't be surprised if he commits on the spot.
Once Mama sees what Kevin saw and experienced, it'll be a done deal.
Cause we all know what happens, "When Mama calls." RTR
i thought i read somewhere that patterson was down to bama and ole miss before he had a bama offer. could someone clarify this?
We were one of his favorites along with Ole Miss even before we offered. I don't believe he's narrowed things down that far just yet.

Well you have to look at the receivers we are recruiting. I think Bumphis is very much open as someone we want because he is a slot guy. Norwood, Kelly and Patterson are all outside receivers. Kelly is more physical, Patterson is more of a clutch, and Norwood is just a solid athlete all around. I honestly think the reason we want Norwood is for his defensive skills, even though we are recruiting him at WR. I think once he commits Saban will give him an opportunity to play WR, but he will move to DB if he wants to play (much like the Chris Jordan effect). Kelly and Bowman would be a natural offset to Julio's play ability, while Patterson would be a natural backup to fill in for Julio to keep the receiving corps fresh.

Norwood is the #1 WR on our board. I don't think defense is in our plans for him, right now, despite his skill set on that side of the ball.
Also, as we have seen with McCoy and Maze, we aren't necessarily sticking with the normal routine in slot vs. outside WR roles. We are looking for guys that can play both and create matchup problems.

That's interesting. I thought KK was our #1 target at WR. I haven't seen any video of Norwood (it wouldn't matter anyway b/c they all look phenomenal to me), but KK is very good. So is Norwood ahead of KK or is it like a 1a and 1b thing?

Well KK certainly has a spot waiting for him til the end if that's what you mean.
The fact of the matter is all indications are that Kevin Norwood is our #1 target at WR, not defensive back, though he definitely has the ability to be a playmaking safety in the SEC from the film I've seen. I know its hard to not get too caught up in the media's rankings of players but the fact remains Saban and company have unparalleled ability to evaluate talent and all the five stars and high four stars everyone wants are behind three star Kevin Norwood on the staff's board. The fact the staff wants him so much and he loves Alabama and is not afraid to say we are his clear front runner, makes me want him more than all these guys. I think Kelly will be an excellent receiver and hopefully we get him as well but I would be more bummed if somehow we lost Norwood. Not too mention Saban loves to bring in players that have the athletic ability to play different positions if need be to get the best eleven on the field. And if the scenario happens where Norwood doesn't perform as well as we hoped or the others end up being better than he will probably be told he needs to move to D to play. And as much as he seems to like Bama he probably will to help the team. But if Norwood comes in and performs as expected then he will play WR at The Capstone. My ideal WR class is Bowman, Norwood, Kelly and Patterson. I like the big receivers. But if we get Bumphis or Randle instead of Patterson I would still be giddy. No matter how the chips fall it will be an stellar WR haul. RTR.

Yeah, I've seen several people on here claim Norwood is above Kelly on the board. I'm just curious where that info came from. I understand Saban has his own criteria for recruiting, but I'm just curious where someone got the inside scoop on Norwood being our #1 priority. I don't doubt he is a top prospect, but the logic on Maze lining up as slot and outside is really a poor example of assignment rationalization. Maze is quick and agile... he is built for the slot, which is where he lined up. However, he is without a doubt one of the fastest guys on the team with proven ability to catch (even at a size handicap). I believe not having the physical type of receivers Saban wants has warranted having Maze behind McCoy. McCoy has been hurt, Alexander has been hurt, so the next person was BJ Scott... who has played that role with Maze in the slot and vice versa. It's nice to have several guys who can be put in different situations, but really you need people who are built for the positions in those positions... hybrids work some of the time, but I think in our case it's due to depth issues.

The Norwood as number 1 thing has come from guys on this board who are probably some of the most in the know experts on the internet. I don't doubt the validity escpecially if you watch his videos. He is impressive. Good point on the Maze situation. Personally I love big physical fast receivers so I would love to add the big guys like Kelly, Norwood, and Patterson to go with Bowman. Bumphis will be an excellent receiver and would love to have him as well because he has a unique skill set. And obviously I would love to have Rueben Randle and would probably have a stroke if Saban nabbed him. RTR.
