re: CB Janzen Jackson Update (2/01): He talks about his Bama visit
The word is JJ wants to play safety but LSU wants him as a corner and CNS wants him as a safety. Could play in our favor. Some are cautiously optimistic.

I suppose your opinion is as good as anyone's but we would expect that from a lswho fan. We may have no "real shot" but we will just have to wait and see.......so will you!!!

Enlightening. Seriously, regardless of the opinion itself, it's always nice to have a little elaboration.
Anywho... Jackson would be a very good fit at Alabama, and he's going to give us a serious look. He really wants to play safety, and we want him at safety, while LSU is planning on making him a corner. Combine that with the fact that Saban has continued to recruit him very hard, and the fact that Saban specializes in DB's and everyone knows it, we at least have a shot. To be sure, the odds of us turning Jackson are probably very low, but hey it's worth a shot.
Interestingly enough, we might play Jackson a bit against Myles. As long as the staff still has Jackson on the board and think they at least have a legitimate chance with him, they will probably hold off on Myles a bit. We really only have room for one more safety, and if we can somehow make that Jackson, I'm sure we'll let Myles go wherever he wants. I wouldn't be surprised if we missed on both, mind you, but even so they are still on the board and we are pursuing them both. We'll see.

I am going to go out on a limb and say we land one or the other.

But... Russell Shepard said Darren Myles was an LSU lock
(completely sarcastic btw)
I know you are being sarcastic, but I just wanted to point out what you are referencing in general.
It wasn't even a week ago that Shepard guaranteed Debose was coming to LSU, and even as late as Friday Chris Davenport was telling everyone he could find that Campbell was headed to LSU. Obviously, neither worked out, despite what they kept talking about.
The point is that, generally speaking, you cannot put too much stock in what one recruit says about another recruit. At the very best these guys tend to be very biased and cannot see the forest for the trees, while at the very worst they are trying to manipulate the process to get publicity for themselves, their school, and put more pressure on the recruit in question. That's why I don't put much stock in McCarron saying that Randle is coming to Alabama. You just cannot trust that sort of thing.

Which is why the only source I trust is "NSD" and watching those young men signed their names to the LOI's, everything else is conjucture, rumor-mongering, and flat out stories.

Janzen Jackson says he is officially visiting Bama on Jan. 30th. I can not understand why he is not listed as a soft verbal since he has been talking about officially visiting Bama for a while now. Read the article 'Tide moving in on Janzen?' in the Rivals profile linked here for the details.

The whole "soft verbal" bit is really just a sham. The supposed rationale behind it is that any commitment who has an official visit scheduled with another school is considered "soft." Of course, in reality, it is never applied that way. Kids like Janzen Jackson, for example, are considered firm, while a guy like McCarron is a "soft" commitment just because he's going on one visit to Ole Miss, even though he has said repeatedly that there's no way he's leaving Alabama and that he is just doing it for the fun.
Either way, though, the news with Jackson is somewhat positive. He'll probably still stick with LSU, but you have to like him visiting right before NSD. He's obviously interested in us and what we have to offer.
